I've just been made aware by carlos_75 of a scam attempt made on him. We've all seen these scammers try and extort money out of people for laptops, huge inheritances etc but they sadly now seem to be targeting forums. To most these stick out like a sore thumb, all the usual signs are there, but just in case you're new to the hobby or haven't seen scammers etc please check out the below emails. DO NOT reply or send money to any emails that have similar content! The tell-tale signs are:

1) Asking for partial payment via Western Union
2) Bogus paypal emails claiming you have been sent money (always check on the paypal site itself)
3) Pushy emails asking you to do it immediately
4) Dodgy English, using phrases like 'God bless' etc
5) Claiming they are out of the country and will be using an agent

Again all pretty standard stuff, but please be careful guys.

Re: VINTAGE STAR WARS , AT AT DRIVER ,AFA 85 GENERAL MILLS
Thanks for the quick response, can you assure me it's in good condition ??
,I need you to understand that I am willing and ready to purchase it right
away, put it off the AD site, consider me as your favorite buyer, I'm
seriously interested in buying this and due to the nature of my work, phone
calls making and visiting of website are restricted but i squeezed out time
to check this advert and send you an email regarding it.i would be glad to
pay for it as soon as possible though i will not be available to come for
an inspection due to my tight schedule.Kindly get back to me with the
following questions below:

1) What is the condition?
2) Are you the Owner?
3) Pick up Location?
4) Your PayPal Email ID to effect the payment
5) How much is your buy it now price

I would be glad to make the payment immediately through PayPal so kindly
get back to me with your PayPal ID. You need not to worry yourself about
title transfer and shipment,i will instruct the shipping company to handle
that therefore in order to complete the transaction do get back to me with
your PayPal ID and total cost so that I can make the payment asap. I will
be waiting for your reply!
Thanks and God bless

Thanks for your usual response and i really need you to do me a favor,i just got a message from headquarters of the shipping company that will come for the pickup for me, that i need to pay a total commission of about £120 to them before the pickup can be registered and it should be paid via western union ONLY and there is no western union outlet at my present location to send the money to them over here as I'm presently off-shore,so all i need from you is the permission to include the said amount of £150 to the payment so i will be transferring £420 into your PayPal account and you will help me wire the money to them for the pickup as soon as you get it, PayPal will be informed about this process as well.Sorry to put this on you but without the pickup, the purchase cant hold. And I'm just asking about it to make sure its in good condition so can you assure me i will not be disappointed.....

your money has been deducted from my account immediately i made the payment and i don't have access to it anymore and it can not be refund back to me account and due to security reasons Paypal held the money in there data base until you get back to them with the western union details before they release the funds........i want to you to get the money sent as soon as you can so my pick up can reschedule a pick up time so the pick up can be made because is
taking longer than expected.I want you to confirm that you've indeed received the payment confirmation..I explained earlier to you about the problem i had with the pick up agent. ...i can assure you that you are secure and safe when dealing with PayPal Ok?Kindly Understand
my view and send the money so that my agent can come for it in time ... and i shall appreciate all your great gestures by doing this....I really count on this transaction. Regards

And here's the scam paypal email. Again very obvious and most people that read it wouldn't fall for it, but some people do unfortunately...

Cheers guys. It's happening here as well, it was on the 6 oclock news today that they are targeting TradeMe (NZ's version of ebay) with dodgy Western Union transfer requests.

I wanted to share it with you lot because even thou it looks really obvious , it could get a few people . As soon as I said I didn't trust them and forget the deal , that's when I had the paypal email saying it had already been paid into my account , they only stopped sending emails when I said police were involved and paypal . It does put you on edge

Blimy! Thanks Carlos and Edd for passing this on, and good idea to make it a sticky.
Yes, it does look obvious, but better safe than sorry! I know of guys here who have regretted making purchases whilst a bit tipsy. Maybe if drunk this wouldn't be so obvious?
Thanks again

There's another site here.

Anyone fancy trying to get some of these guys to make us some uber rare vintage Star Wars Nigerian bootlegs?

It's more the fact that they've cottoned on to Star Wars toys I'm concerned about. The above could easily fool somebody that isn't great at English or from another country.
