Re: Reproduction Weapons

Anything repro devalues your collection to the extent you might as well stick a toothpick in Luke's arm than a repro DT sabre.

Re: Rarity perception

Fair enough, we disagree. I think that using the noun definition that describes the "actual holy grail" (not even confirmed to exist and likely one of the most valuable and revered things on the planet if ever discovered) probably doesn't belong in SW collecting anyway. Personally I think ...

Re: Rarity perception

... and the over used term Holy Grail  A definition of holy grail or grail (not the strictly religious definition) is "a thing which is eagerly pursued or sought after". Grail doesn't describe rarity as much as elusiveness to an individual. It can be a relatively common item that is...

Re: is this a legit variant?

Is this a legit variant? Unless it's a vinyl cape Jawa, double telescoping Luke/Vader/Ben, small head Han, or blue Snaggletooth, then no ;) I think you can add at least Yoda orange/brown snake, Luke Blue/Green sabre, Ben White/grey hair to that list. Essentially if something changes for an aestheti...

Re: is this a legit variant?

As someone mentioned above, the fact that some limbs, paint apps or capes change colour when others don't means there must be some variation in the materials used. However considering some of these figures were produced continuously for 8 or so years means it's very likely that supplies, materials o...

Re: Rarity perception

I think a lot of the misconceptions about rarity stem from the early collector guides that were nearly all written from a US perspective in the early 90's. It's all we had in the UK so had nothing else to base rarity on pre-internet other than what we were finding in junk shops, carboot sales and fr...

Re: is this a legit variant?

Put it this way, they never looked like that 30-40 years ago. That's the sign of a true varient (eg Tusken cheek holes) and Vs paint/plastic degradation (green limbed Chewie).

Re: Best packaging ever?

Yep agree with that. Advertising the contents are very valuable star wars items will likely attract unwanted attention. Of course they aren't all valuable, but to regular joebpost worker it's the way they are perceived. Best leave it inconspicuous.

Re: Carded Power Droid 21b Disaster

I've had acrylic cases lift seals before but only on warped cards where the flex has gone through the bubble when the card was straightened (foolishly). If it slid in a few days ago with no trouble I can think of no environmental factors that would cause this damage in such a short space of time.

Regardless of then being proofs or samples or just unused cards, the price of these was an amazing steal. Especially that Fett.

Re: Help needed identifying this.....

Unlikely to be a mould, and an odd colour for a production Vader item. Not sure but looks like a display piece of some description, again odd colour though.

Re: Solving problems in the hobby - how?

Interesting thing with TT's is I bet even disclosed there are probably not many worth less now than the price paid bitd even in the belief they were real. I bought several in the 90's, and the prices even disclosed seem to be readjusting to an extent that even if you purchased them in good faith fro...
