When and why did you stop collecting SW

Looks like I stopped earlier than most on here so far. Mine was whenever the 77-backs were first released in the UK. My last purchase was Wicket, my one-and-only second wave Jedi figure. Even then I recall looking at that wave of figures on the back of the card and thinking they looked pretty...

Today, I sold four carded figures and bought a…

Yep, I'm definitely feeling the same. There are a few things happened over the past few years that've led me there. Hitting 50 and realising that retirement isn't that far away. The more I spend on things I don't need, the further away retirement is. Moving house and realising (i) how much...

    Do you still collect?

I'm still collecting, and there are items I'd love to add to my collection, but it's pretty rare I buy anything these days. Cost is really the cause of this, with even shabby/incomplete items commanding a premium. I've been meaning to add the DV Star Destroyer and Imperial Attack Base playsets...

Another for the childhood toy shop price sticker focus. Wiley's was based in Bradford, West Yorkshire, and this is my first vintage item with one of their stickers. Three toy shops down, three toy shops (and more department stores/supermarkets) to go!

ACME Toy Superstore Visit - Florida

I did Acme about 6 years ago. They had a good selection of vintage but there were plenty of repro accessories in there.

    Latest Acquisitions

I've not bought much this past year or so - there are a few items I'm after but with prices so nuts I really can't justify spending so much money. What I've been doing instead is keeping an eye out for items with price stickers from my childhood toy shops... and I've been lucky to buy two! Both...

    Collecting now

The first thing I'd say is by providing your email address you're leaving yourself open to people making private offers... which could be less than your items are worth. I'd recommend not accepting any offers that way for now. What you can do is post on the 'Vintage valuation request'...

    Collecting now

I really haven't bought much over the past few years, mainly because of moving house and rising prices. There are items I'd still like to buy but they're going for (IMO) silly money - Palitoy Death Star, 12" Fett, ESB R2 solid dome MOC. Heck, even the Vader's Star Destroyer playset seems to go...

Good call, doesn't have to be a Chewie card then. I'll keep an eye out!

    Latest Acquisitions

Like some others I haven't really bought much in the past 12 months, but I did snag this earlier in the year. It came from the US and has been at my brother's for about 6 months before I had him send it over. It is/was a 21c but the sticker on the front's been removed, leaving a lot of damage in...

Nice DSC MOC. It might not be one of the best looking cardbacks but there's something about it that's hugely nostalgic for me too.

Condition now more important than character or cardback?

Condition has always been a factor when buying items which are relatively common, but cardback certainly used to be more of a deciding factor. For the most part the older the cardback the more expensive the figure. I think the 'most collectors have not clue of rarity' is true for the majority...

PayPal and Ebay - what's going on??

Looks like I spoke too soon, as I had an email from eBay a couple of days ago. I have to update by the end of the month.

PayPal and Ebay - what's going on??

It's still working for me and I've had nothing (yet) from eBay asking me to switch over.

    Loose figure price increases? ?

Absolutely nothing like taking off a card. I broke out a graded loose Leia Poncho figure which had been erroneously graded with a Leia blaster instead of an Endor one. Said blaster is now paired with my Leia Bespin and the figure was an upgrade for the one I already had. Most bizarre of all was...

Cardbacks with Correct Figure and accessory

Leia (Hoth Outfit), Canadian 41-a Kenner. This came from a US seller who sold it as MOC and the figure burst through the top of the bubble during shipping. The original purchaser sent it back and I bought it knowingly in this condition. Due to this I can't be 100% sure the blaster or figure are...
