I've seen many a post and poll over the years asking collectors what their favourite Vintage figure is, and I always enjoy taking part in them. However, what about those (increasingly expensive these days :-() tiny plastic weapons and accessories the figures came with? What are your favourite and least favourite items in that field and why? Are there any that really make you smile with delight, or wince in pain?

Being very, very old these days ;-) I can remember what my favourites were as a child in the 70's and 80's, and which ones left me thoroughly underwhelmed or annoyed! I was very good at not losing any of my weapons, but that certainly didn't mean I liked them all equally, so here's my personal top likes and loathes:

Top 3 Likes:

1) Luke Bespin Lightsaber - It shouldn't have been my favourite as it was the wrong damn colour, but I loved the fact Luke could finally hold a saber properly! This was my childhood #1 weapon on my favourite childhood figure!... I did still wish it was blue though!

2) Han Solo's / Rebel Blaster - Iconic and pretty accurate for such a small scale. I liked the fact it came in different colours and that Luke Bespin came with one in addition to his saber; that's some great accessory value there Kenner! :-D

3) Yoda's Cloak - Not really sure what the hell Yoda was doing coming with a snake around his neck as I certainly don't remember seeing that in the film, but that little fella also came with a magnificent soft goods cloak that I just loved as a kid!

Top 3 Dislikes:

3) Cloud Car Pilot's Communicator - It was very small and very easily lost, but I never lost mine so that's not why I disliked it. I disliked it because Kenner nade the Pilot's left arm permanently crooked in a stupid pose in order to 'use' it! Take the communicator away and he looks like a waiter missing a towel over his arm.

2) Snowtrooper's / Dengar's Rifle - WTF?! That thing isn't even in the films! There was a perfectly good Imperial blaster they could have given the Snowtrooper, but instead they foisted that enormous barge pole on the figure. When he held it in his outstretched arm it reached out about fifty feet in front of him wherever he went! Ridiculous!

1) General Madine's Stick - Really, has there ever been a more crap accessory on a more crap figure? Watch out Darth Vader with your bright red lethal lightsaber! General Madine's got a white stick!... All he needs now is a guide dog to go with it.

OK, those are my choices. What are yours?

Funnily the only one I now vividly remember loving and playing with was Solo's Rebel blaster, whenever that thing went missing and I found it again just the sight of the blaster design exciting to look at. I remember playing with a couple of other blasters but the memories are unfortunately gone of exactly which ones, and a lot of the figures were my older brothers toys so by the time I started playing with them most of the weapons must have gotten lost.

Currently though as an adult my 2nd favourite is Leia's blaster, there's something about that sleek tiny slim design I love, 3rd I reckon the Rebel blaster again just because I love the design and it's so iconic.

I can't stand Ree Yees' weapon, it's big, ugly, gold, and looks like a non-Star Wars weapon from some cheapo £1 shop no name toy, 2nd I dislike Zuckuss' weapon, again it's too big and a bit ugly looking, they should have made it slimmer more like a proper hunting rifle.

I think it is in the films, it's meant to be this - the large Stormtrooper blaster based on a German MG34 machine gun. Although strangely it's mostly seen in Star Wars on Tatooine and the Death Star. Might be a peek of a Snowtrooper holding one in Empire? Dunno.

Anyway, I agree, too big! I had Dengar and a Snowtrooper as a kid and with their non bendable arms it's just daft. I quite like the Imperial blaster, the Smugglers blaster and the 4-Lom blaster. I think the Vibroblade is a cool design to. Yeah not that fussed about sticks and staffs, bit lame.

Wow Snaketibe I can't believe you can remember which weapons you loved to play with. I can just about remember which ships and figures I had and even that's patchy!

As a collector I've always really liked the Logray and Bib Fortuna staffs. I also really like the design of the Amanaman Headhunter Staff though it's so god damn unwieldy it's hard to display effectively.

My favourite Blasters are the black Han Solo Rebel blaster, black Princess Leia Blaster and grey brown Palace Blaster (which I think goes better with the Lando General figure). They all look cool, compact and as subzero says "iconic".

I generally dislike most of the rifles because it's hard to display them effectively. I mean what can you do with the Leia Boushh Rifle? And all I end up doing with the Hoth Rebel Rifle and At At Driver Rifle is slinging it over the shoulder.

The figures that display most effectively with the bigger weapons are Weequay and Tusken Raider because of the way they can be posed poised for action holding their weapon with both hands.

And I know it's f**king expensive but the R2 pop up Lightsaber is awesome because well... it pops up when you turn his head.

Zuckuss blaster was my go to as a kid. It's absolutely enormous and would take out waves of storm troopers with ease.

I'll second the ree yees blaster for the worst choice. It's so **** I didn't even realise it's supposed to be a blaster until I started collecting. I thought it was some sort of pipe to go with jabbas bong.

About Snowtrooper's / Dengar's Rifle. That one is in the film. Dengar have one, but I have never seen them on snowtroopers. But stormtroopers use them in ANH, Luke have one on the death star see links and pictures

My Top 3 Likes:

1) Luke Bespin Lightsaber - I got mine with the farmer luke and it was first in 2001 that I learned that there was also a telescoping yellow saber
I thought the saber was much better than the vader and the kenobi saber. There was no tip that could break.

2) Dengar/Stormtrooper rifle - Nice big weapon that did not get lost for small kids

3) Rebel Commander/ Luke Hoth Rifle - I love that the rifle have a sling so the troops can have it around the shoulder 8)

Top 3 Dislikes:

1) Endor Blaster - Small and get lost all the time for kids.

2) Yoda Snake - I think it was strange that Yoda had a snake, because he did not have one in the movie.

3) black Palace Blaster - it does not fit in lando calrissians hand

Wasn't there a snake in his house in ESB?

I am not sure, but he did not have a snake around his neck. There was a lot of snakes in the dungeon where luke saw vader

I agree that it might be that it's SUPPOSED to be that particular rifle, but if so it's a truly terrible likeness! So much so in fact, that it's really only Kenner who could say for sure. The biggest divergence is the second hand grip towards the front of the figure's gun, which is completely absent from the on-screen rifle, which instead had a sniper's mount / ground support / whatever you'd call it. Whatever it is, it's certainly not a second hand grip. And since it therefore doesn't really look like any on-screen weapon, I still contend that it's not really from the film, and certainly stand by my assertion that Kenner should have given a regular Imperial blaster to the Snowtrooper and moulded a more accurate rifle for Dengar... After all, they managed it for IG-88 :)

Least favourite is probably Zuckuss' rifle... straight out of the GI Joe scrapbook. Maybe Boushh's gunstaffpole.

Best is probably Yoda's little belt/coat and snake - just great!

I hear a few guys saying they welcomed the Luke Bespin sabre but I loved the original ( ok, single-telescoping ) sabres. Great playability - you could even make the noise along with extending it. C'mon? :D One of my earliest SW memories is thinking the Vader sabre was the bee's knees. An obvious choice is the removable helmets - especially Boushh IMO. And, less obviously, I loved the Jawa and Tusken accessories. Which was a shame because I lost them within days.

Crap one's - Boushh's thing that appears to the least practical rifle. It's made worse by the fact that she can't hold it like a pole terribly easily. Speaking of which - the fact that many of the figures don't hold their weapons easily is the bane of my life now I have a disease that affects my hands. It's not unusual for me to shout "oh f*** off Kenner" when trying to get a Biker Scout to hold his gun at a non-jaunty angle.

Oh my god, is that a rifle that Ree Yees has, I have always thought it was a staff!
What a load of crap, a gold rifle, well I never, has got to be the worse surely?
