How were figures painted?

Postby indianawars » Tue Jan 30, 2018 5:00 pm

Does anyone know the process to how these figures were painted? Was it all done by hand?

I'm guessing things like the hands and feet were dipped into the paint... but as for the rest of the figure, I don't know?

If you take a figure like Boba Fett, surely painting them all by hand must have taken a lot of time.

I think they were painted using spray masks.

Yeah you never see any brush strokes on the paintwork, the finish is always smooth.
Chavs are easily startled, but they will soon be back, and in greater numbers

Very interesting stuff. Thank you for the links, I appreciate it.
I would never have come up with that conclusion.

It’s always amazed me, the people that designed the masks must have very highly skilled.

It's quite amazing when you consider the volume they made and the relatively small sizes of the figures. Paint errors are rarities too. Their quality control was certainly up to speed.

This Han in Trench Coat (ROTJ 77 back) could have been done a bit better.
Not sure about the freckles!
