When I got my Palitoy 30 back Yoda, AFA 80, late on last year I had no idea about it until a friend I know in collecting was good enough to inform me as he knew I needed that figure to complete my Palitoy 30 back B graded run, going on ebay etc is fine but nothing much comes up, only from time to time and every man and his dog knows about it.
So, where do you buy rare Moc's, my answer would be from other collectors who decide to sell and inform you, this hobby is about building friendships and trust but most importantly having a good and fair reputation, thankfully I have and that's why people help me along the way.

Looks like I will have to improve my networking skills as to date they have been poor.

You will more likely to succeed in networking on forums with old timers, show offs on FB are usually newbies and they may or may not have the rare items you want. Locating the item is easy doing a deal for sale or trade is difficult. I know someone that was in discussion on a piece for 3 years before a deal was done, if you don't have patience then I suggest changing hobbies.

3 years seems like a very long time, why do you think it took so long?

In the grand scheme of things, 3 years is nothing!
You just ain't earned it yet.
