Fake Darth Vader vinyl cape ? HELP

Postby Pomse2001 » Mon Jul 16, 2018 11:49 am

Hi guys, is it only the lili ledy darth vader vinyl cape that is soft with no zip sound or is there other vader capes like that ?

I got 2 vaders today from evilbay, but there is no zip sound on them and they are soft on both sides. But they are also different, one is soft the other much more stiff :?

I can add pictures later when I get home from work.

I will also try to compare them with my lili ledy capes, but the coo on the figures are not lili ledy :?

The three PBP variant capes have no zipping sound. Two of those are pretty distinct though, but the third is not heavily patterned. I’ll try and post some pics up from Javi’s book, or close ups of mine if I can get a good shot. I believe, but again I don’t own one to confirm, that the Palitoy cape might not zip either.

I know the palitoy and the pbp does not zip but they are also not smooth on both sides

I was thinking about a cape like the ledy smooth on both sides if I remember correct :?

ok here are pictures to the left are an original lili ledy vader cape to compare

The new cape I picked up is to the right and it is darker but they are both smooth and make no zip sound. Are the right one repro/fake ? :?

picture 3 and 4 are only new cape from both sides.

ok here are the second cape compared to a lili ledy cape.

this one is also smooth on both sides, but it is more stiff so unless there is something I do not know then I would say fake/repro.

The lili ledy are again to the left and the new one are to the right and on picture 3 and 4 it is only the new cape from both sides.

I have also taken a picture of the the coo, both vader had this coo

Hi Lars,

I believe this is the PBP so called “blob Coo” Vader which is the rarest of the PBP Darth Vader Coos. Here is an excerpt from a post regarding the blob Coo Vader by Javi Ruilopez.

“My understanding about the blob CoO Vader is that the figure "seems" to be exclusive to the Spanish market which comes with thr cape with both side smooth and a "cut step" on the edge. the saber included with this variant it "seems" to be always the pale orange one, similar to yours”.

Below are pics of the Coo, cape and the saber that came with the blob Coo Vader Javi was discussing (incidentally the poster was from Copenhagen). The saber should be orange and is the one on the right hand side of this TIG guide.

Thanks mate I will not say it is the same coo, Hong Kong looks like it is melted partley away on the ones I have, but I can still see the Hong Kong letters. The one you show pictures of is missing the bottom of G and 9 in GMFGI 1977 mine is not missing the bottom of this letter and number :?

Yes you’re right, yours looks like family VI former version of 2b (which is the blobby Coo). I thought his was the same but it’s family VI 2a.

Here is an excerpt from Javi’s book about the capes. I will take a pic of the cape textures tomorrow in better light. Sorry I can’t help you any more than that. Perhaps hellhippie might shed some more light.

I agree, both that I found are family VI, former version of 2b. I have never found this coo before so I am surprised to see both have smoth capes with no zip sound. But both capes are different and one is much more stiff than the other. The stiff one I think is repro, the other one confuse me a lot. Could be cool if any one have the same coo and can tell me and show me more about the cape for this coo, also so I can contact seller about a refund if they are fake/repro.

Hi Lars, photos of cape from Javi’s book. No. 7 is the smooth both sides cape in question.

I have two PBP Vaders with the smooth both sides cape. One is softer and more flexible (similar to a zip cape), while the other is more rigid (similar to the rugose PBP cape), just like you. Of the two, the softer is from a childhood collection which I purchased along with the original PBP cardback. I can not say for sure if the more rigid is 100% original. However, the pattern on both sides of the cape is similar and reflect what is seen in Javi’s book.

I apologise in advance for these photos (I really need to upgrade my phone).

On the first pic, which is the softer cape, you can see what looks like an overall horizontal pattern, but if you look closely (directly below the hole in the lighter area) matches the vertical pattern from Javi’s book.

On the second pic you can see the same pattern where the light catches it near the left hand edge on the more rigid cape at the front.

It is my intentions to get all 6 capes I have, examined by Javi for authenticity, as I believe I have all three known PBP capes, as well as a couple of dubious ones.

I hope this helps in some small way. :? :D
