Hi All,

I've given up with pre made shelving. Anyone know where I can get custom made wall shelves for displaying loose and carded figures. I've been saying for years I'm going to get a decent wall display put up but I have limited space apart from a landing wall and I'm looking for something not too deep but with either adjustable shelves or shelves set at certain levels to fit loose and carded. Cheers Oli

If depth is a problem have you thought about making a recess in the wall (depending on its thickness of course) similar to what people do with paintings. Glass shelves can look nice and easy enough to get made. I recently had some bespoke holders made for Comics and MOC'S at a place that made laminates (kitchen worktops and that sort of thing) I had to give them an exact design and measurement but the end result was satisfactory, places like that could easily do shelves, if they won't, have a shelf made out of wood or MDF and get it laminated in whatever you want (like a kitchen work top). I would also think about how you are going to secure the items on the shelf to stop them falling or being knocked off by accident.

Thanks for the link. Yes i saw some of these in another recent thread. They look fantastic but perhaps more suited to loose figures. I'm looking for something mainly for carded and a fairly simple design. I will reach out to him though and see what kind of stuff he does. Is he UK based?

I saw the shelves you have in your limelight and they look really awesome. I would love something like that but that kind of workmanship is beyond me. And besides I don't know if it would be possible with the wall i have in mind. I live in a fairly old period style house and most of the walls have beams or are slightly slanty. I'm not sure the landing wall is actually deep enough to make reasonable size recesses. Maybe when I move in the future that would be my ideal set up.

I like slatwall displays like they have in sneaker stores, it gives you nice finished walls but it allows for some creativity in the configuration as there are lots of different types of hooks and shelving that wil slide right in where you want them and you can always reconfigure without drilling holes when your collection changes shape .

This is a nice versatile system I've used a few times. They sell it everywhere, Homebase, Wickes etc. You can put the vertical wall bars wherever you like and put the shelf supports at any height by slotting them in. It's looks quite cool and retro too. I'm not sure what size the smallest shelf supports are. It's very strong, this one has my hi-fi on it.

Stuck some LED lights behind them and they look a bit like the light panels on the Death Star (kenobi / Vader fight, detention block)!

They're what I use in all of my cabinet builds, like the one I show you how to make here http://starwarsforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=36404

The smallest bracket size that I use (and I *think* the smallest available, but could be wrong) is 12 cm. This is the size I use in my loose figure cabinets, and the overall depth of those particular cabinets ends up being 16.5 cm.

You can see more images of a cabinet being built and the twin-slot system at the link above, but here's a quick idea of what they end up looking like:

It's a great solution if you want to be able to set the size and distance between everything and you want wall shelves rather than a cabinet. To the Op, if you use this system you need your screws for the wall bars to have countersunk heads and be about 1.5cm longer than your raw plugs because the wall bars are a U shape and therefore the screw hole sits away from the wall. I think I used 6mm wide screws and rawplugs and mine are holding a very heavy amplifier. You could prob use a lighter screw/rawplug setup for vintage SW.

Great cabinets Snaketibe, you are very talented! Thanks for the share :)

That is a great idea. i do like the idea of being able to adjust the shelves.

I've been contemplating contacting this company for a custom made to measure display case. Lots of really smart options but not cheap.

Lovely but expensive!
Great if you've got some amazing items to display.
