Is this really a childhood DV Lightsaber?

Postby TheJabbaWookie » Thu Dec 07, 2017 3:33 pm

Hi guys,

I’ve recently acquired a Darth Vader off of someone on eBay who claims to be selling his childhood collection. When the figure turned up I immediately put it back as (to me) the Lightsaber was a known reproduction from the 90s. It is a flat tip transition with a very thin hilt - you know the ones that are so thin they’re not a snug fit in the arm and they don’t stay in place when you raise the arm. It floats on the surface and when submerged immediately rises to the surface.

The thing is the guy is insistent that it’s his from his original childhood collection but before I start a returns case I just wanted to double check you guys all thinks it’s a Repro too.

The only two flat tip transitions on TIG are v1 which is notable for the thin protrusion from the tip (almost like a 2nd tip if you like) and v2 which is shown with letters on the hilt. It certainly is not v1 as it does not have the small protrusion and I have had one of these variants in the past and know the back end is much thicker; and I have a v2 with letters on it which has a completely different back end to this one as well. However, I realise that TIG is not always 100% up to date, and also does not show pictures of the back end, so was just looking for up people's views on it before talking to this guy again.

If I had to hazard a guess I would say it was repro v3, although in the poor lighting I have I can not tell if it has a texture to it as TIG describes. I have seen a few of what I believe are these 90s repros and have an almost identical suspect blue Ben one which I have quarantined in my repro bag.

I heard Stefan Callear and Jabbas Court are holding a Repro clinic there. I’d love to go one year but it’s a long way at such short notice and besides my sister is getting married and would never forgive me

This saber is a different mold to any shown on TIG, yes it is a real and original saber,
if your Ben saber is the same then take it out of the repro bag.
