Right, i did say id be doing R2 after the Jawa but im gonna go with a scratch built lifesize Han carbonite to give me some cutting practice first. Its always been a favorite of mine and the time is right. So this thread will be dedicated towards my build. The only thing im buying for the build is the Han body cast from a guy in the USA. I have already cut the box frame and will be cutting the cutouts for the panels this week. I will be making the panels themselves ( which are actually old Volvo dashboards on the real prop) from found items, and will not be buying anything, just to show what you can do with diddly:) one of the panels will be working with lights etc.

So hang in there, and enjoy the ride. I aim to be done within a year :) it will take time, and even more time to convince the wife it is going on the wall above the stairs when complete:)

Which bit will take a year, building or convincing the missus to let you hang it on the wall?

This I want to see! Any chance of a step by step guide as you do it? Always like to see the process and pitfalls.

Ok guys,here we go :D

Total spent so far £9 and a bit of sweat :D got the frame cut out today from a free sheet of ply that was a top sheet on a pallet. All cut with a handsaw. I had done one in hardboard but wasnt happy with it.bought a sheet of mdf and cut it into lengths for box walls. Will be cutting the 8 side control panels over the next few weeks, aswell as the top and bottom so recess parts.

This is going to be awesome. It's like doing it myself but without the cost, use of time, mess and (by far the worst of all) nagging! Looking forward to it, Lee.

Wassup fellas :D

Quick update on my build. I managed to get quite a bit done today as it was raining all morning. I have finished the box and am quite happy with how it turned out. Im trying to stick to a budget so used odd bits of timber I had lying around to do the braces etc. The panel cut outs are pretty rough but I intend to bondo the edges and smooth to a nice finish. I also left the corners of the box clear so I can bondo them and add the slight corner.

Staying with the budget idea, I found 4 pallet corner protectors at work and thought they would be a great basis for scratch build panels. Ive used a heat gun to shape one into a similar shape to the original panels, although not perfect.

Got more done in the past few hours. Starting filling some screw holes and put blanking sheets over the panel and top/bottom recesses. Spent another £7 so that make around £20 all in so far.
