The end of the autograph market?

Postby Mr-shifter » Sun Mar 20, 2016 9:01 am

Hi chaps.

Looking at the book of face this morning and I came across this rather interesting bit of kit.

http://interestingengineering.com/perso ... -you-want/

Now I can see the use in this in making lovely consistent hand written items. Some of the things it does in the video are amazing.

Then I got thinking, particularly at the end where it was signing certificates, what's to stop someone buying this and getting it to replicate signatures. not just autos, but once you have a persons signature, what's to stop you forging cheques etc.

Bit of food for thought. I have a few autos but generally get them in person, but I know if I ever want a ford for example, I'm going to have to buy one.
Looking for: A fair priced ungraded trilogo Yak Face MOC (Condition is not so important - no cracked bubbles or broken seals though)

It wont make any difference whatsoever mate. It could potentially save secretarys from signing their bosses autograph requests though. Secretarials have been about for years and are part and parcel of collecting. Autographs are something that are better in person, and if its someone who rarely signs then there are ways of obtaining them. The harder autographs are the real challenges though, and try finding Shaw or Marquand on anything Star Wars related. Autograph collecting is now as popular as props/toys and the market is saturated with the usual suspects / con attendees - even Ford can be had within 2 mins. Collecting autographs has its boundaries, and if you want the rarities be prepared to spend big and wait your time.

Education is also key, im getting better and better at spotting fakes as ive been practicing for years. As long as you study enough, and be sure to buy signed from reliable people with good provene you will be ok.
