I'm totally with you on that Poncho, you never really know who you're letting in the home so you have to be a bit careful unfortunately. You'll probably find out that one of the tradesman had a massive SW collection they wanted to give to a good home but thought you weren't really into it

a friend of mine told it is not a good idea to let people into your home that you do not know. So I try to do a trade or sale at the front door :D

I don't let trades people in at all, you can't get rid of them, got physical with one bloke a few years back, had him in for a quote for new windows and patio doors, would not leave, kept pretending to ring his boss for discounts. In the end I got hold of his folder and him and threw him out of the front door. Turns out he had stacks of complaints for trying to intimidate young couples and the elderly :x

That's class   I love hearing when someone like that gets the treatment they deserve, when you're in someone's home you should abide by their rules / requests and leave when you're told and accept no for an answer.

The ones I can't stand are cold callers, fucking hate them with a passion, iv'e resorted to sticking one of these on my door right next to my doorbell...

Knocking on someones door and disturbing people in their homes to convince them to buy shit should be flat out made illegal, sometimes iv'e had 3 different ones in just a single day turn up, and at least 1 cold caller every week which was really starting to piss me off so stuck the sign on. Luckily it actually has worked I think as I haven't had any for several months now, they prob see it and know they aren't gonna get anywhere with you after seeing the sign. Not everyone abides by it though, when I put it up I still had 3 or 4 of the slimy fuckers ring the bell anyway, the last one I had on a Sunday was banging the door with his fist really fast and loud while repeatedly ringing the bell really fast at the same time, he prob seen the sign and thought "ha have that".. well they all got a good piece of my mind when I opened the door to them put it that way.

When I get one now I open the door and start insulting them and practically telling them to fuck off, you don't knock on someones door and disturb someone when there's a sign saying I do not want to be disturbed, for all they know I could be very ill or really vulnerable, or working nights and sleeping in the day which I have done in some jobs over the years. So I have every right to tell them to fuck off, or maybe even throw a bucket of water over them which i'm getting closer and closer to doing every year, you see a sign and ring the bell anyway then you deserve it. I was working nights once years ago when living at my mates flat, getting back at 7am after a 12 hour shift and going to bed at about 8, got woken up at about 12 noon by the door being banged so raced down the ladders half asleep out of my loft bedroom then down the stairs thinking it was an important call because of the banging, opened the door and nobody was there. Went back upstairs and looked out the window and seen some bible bashers waddling off around the corner so I opened the window and screamed fuck off!!, after all it was about 3am to me.

My aunt made a pushy salesman sit on the floor before he spoke inside the house. It immediately degraded him before all the waffle started. He left with nothing

I had a lad come round to fit a digital electric meter last year and he started taking photos of my collection on his phone. Told me he wanted to show his mate. He seemed a decent lad himself but you never know who's hands the info and photos end up in.

No way I’d let someone do that even if they seemed genuinely interested or knowledgeable. Far more trusting than me.

I hate tradesman coming into the house, had a lot over the last 7 years. What I don’t like is you just don’t no who they are, they could have history of burglary or something. Even if they are normal descent people, what’s stopping them chatting down the pub. All it would take is the wrong sort of person to over hear a conversation and all of a sudden that person knows where to help themselves to some vintage Star Wars.

I tagged along with a couple of my mates once to a job they were working on in someones house several years back, we were due to go out to the pub that night and I ended up going to the house with them for half an hour on the way as we were going straight off out afterwards. They were doing a huge plumbing and tiling job which took them a good week or so, basically my mates were given keys to have full access to the house to do the job while the owners were away.

As we were leaving the house my mate said to me when he was up in the loft doing plumbing work there was cardboard boxes up there completely filled with old Star Wars toys all still packaged & unopened, "fucking tons of them" were his exact words.

I could have been a right thief for all anybody knew, or told another guy about it who could have been a thief, I knew where this house was and also knew the owners were away, it could have been so easy!
