Following on from another thread where we're all moaning about current prices, here's a bit of fun for everyone (or not if you are collecting 12 backs at the moment  )

This is a spreadsheet I made back in 2011 when I put my 12 back set together. All prices include postage, fees etc. None were dead mint, but they weren't too shabby either - none had bubble cracks, missing POPs, major creases etc, see the second photo. All perfectly displayable and generally just a few minor imperfections. I had to do a reasonable bit of hunting to get them for these prices (most came from eBay USA) but as you can see from the dates I did the full run in three months, so I can't have been that lucky.

I sold them roughly a year later, and made a small profit on most, but lost money on 4 (from memory I got stung on customs for all of them which added 50%+ to the price I paid  ) I also did a couple of upgrades along the way too.

Assuming these were all C7-C8 MOCs, what do you reckon each would be worth now? At least double, maybe triple or even more for some of them?

That's some pretty good prices you paid for the time you picked them up. I think my MOC 12 back set I first put together about 5 years ago was for a similar price although my Luke was less than half what you paid. I ended up selling them all as a job lot for just over 2K so took a loss on them. Even though they'd be worth a lot more now I still don't mind the fact that they're gone as the Kenner logo just never felt right for me. I wonder how long it'll be before the prices start to drop a bit (well that's if there are any non graded ones left in the world).

Imagine there's a shitload ungraded - but with the amount of people in the FB groups who buy 12 backs, grade and flip them, it will definitely be a smaller amount.

Even some of the Vectis auction pieces, get bought by the US folks who then grade and flipped on FB. Noticed the R2 that went for just over £800 got bought, graded (got an 85) and flipped for around $2350 or something crazy.

With that kind of mark up on buying a non graded item and getting it graded you can see why people are doing it. Just a shame that it's all about the money for people like this and it means that everything goes up for the collector. I guess it's the same with most things that are bought and sold but with people continuing to do this it's only going to push the prices of non graded closer to those of graded ones. The bubble will burst at some point (maybe when all of us who had these things as kids die and there's no one left in the world to really care about them. It'll be all about Phantom Menace figures  ).
