Great thread.

The ultimate pass up was an Imperial Commander's uniform in around 1995/6. I worked in a comic shop in Warrington called Timezone. A guy came in one week saying he had it from when he had been an extra in Star Wars. I thought "bullshit". Next week (when I wasn't in, of course), he actually brought it in. My mate the manager asked him how much he named a figure. Next week I went in and my mate told me but said it was missing the rank insignia from the chest, no cap and no boots. I thought about it, hummed and ha'd and eventually bought a load of new comics instead and forgot about it.

£200.

As for toys passed up, I guess that would have to be a DT Luke, loose for £220 or possibly a c9.5 (apparently) Luke 12 back (Kenner) for £230 or an ESB 41 back Star Destroyer Commander (Kenner) with a Jawa blaster for £45. All these were off the same mailing list from a one-time-good-dealer-some-time-dodgy-block called Toz (darthplagueis on eBay). This was about 2007.

No big clangers but when I was about 7 I visited my auntie in Lincoln and went to a department store that had a whole wall of last 17. I wasn't aware these figures existed and in my state of shock chose EV9D9. Although this may have proved not a bad financial decision for a 7 year old I still can't believe I snubbed the likes of luke stormie and gunner which are way cooler. I was probably pressured into it by my mum!

Nothing in particular other than not starting collecting when I was reading all the EU stuff, that said life is a journey and this is the path I've chosen.

Great thread but i didn't start collecting again until 2009 so i haven't had that many regrets. OK a few but not as bad as some of these.
I did pass on a VCJ on here for £250 less than 4 years ago, doh.

Back when I picked up my 12 back Leia moc, Maybe 2013...the seller had about six other 12 backs inc Han Chewbacca, Ben, I really thought I should buy the lot at the time but funds weren't there...!
Was probably going to cost me €500-€700....They weren't perfect, but still gets me thinking....

Having said all that, I probably picked up the bargain of a lifetime that same day from the seller....
Tri logo Yoda moc... £15

Back when I started collecting again around 1995, I was going to lots of toy shows. A dealer at the Toronto shows had a box of carded Uzay's at several shows. I can't swear as to what figures were in there, but I definitely remember the logo and just not being interested, as I wanted production Kenner and not bootlegs. The prices on them were all in the $60-$100 Canadian range. I still don't collect bootlegs, but if I had grabbed those instead of ROTJ carded figures, I could have had terrific trade bait for some truly awesome pieces I did want and couldn't afford.

I wasn't the only person to remember this either. I have brought it up on occasion at RS over the years, and there have been a couple of other people who remember the same guy.

Was that Richard Torres?

It was :) I found him reasonable although it did take me a long time to get the last figures I bought from him. Not entirely sure I didn't just get the refund in the end, actually. He always had good bits at reasonable prices. I've seen some threads on RS (I think) where his less than reliable traits are discussed, though.

I've never really turned my nose up at stuff I've been offered but I've definitely had plenty of opportunities to purchase items at much better prices than you see today. That's the disadvantage of being "focused" I suppose! (Oh and the fact that my crystal ball is on the blink too :D )

The only occasion that comes to mind when I think of collecting regrets was when Shawn and I made a rather cool find of foreign carded figures back in 2009.

There were all kinds of figures: PBP ROTJ, Clipper ROTJ, ESB Palitoy and even carded Ledy's as well as a bunch of Trilogos (about 30-40). We bought the best/rarest ones and left the majority of the Trilogos because neither of us could see much of a profit in them and didn't really have an interest in owning them. I guess neither of us saw the appeal of buying Trilogos for $30-50 each even if they were in good condition, it just seemed like an unnecessary purchase and one that could take a while to profit from if we chose to sell.

Two years later I started a Trilogo run and never got an opportunity to purchase figures at those prices again

As someone who only started collecting about a year ago i passed up on pretty much everything by not even being at the party
and every time I read about someone picking up a bargain or even paying the going rate for something 10 years ago I kick myself

Having said this I think the thrill of the hunt and finding or (more likely than not) missing out on a good deal is one of the things I most enjoy. Victory tastes so much sweeter when you have tasted defeat many times so for me the missed opportunities just help to make the wins even more exciting.

I was at a boot sale about 1993 and was just getting back into star wars from when I was a kid, i bought a few ewoks I didn't have, for pence, with some weapons and a "funny staff with skulls on" with some figs I thought were he man :? , when I got home I looked in the star wars "from concept to screen to collectable", I had just got and realised I had failed to buy the amanaman and barada, they would have only been 20p each, I had no idea about them, as I was to old to buy the last 17 or even know about them when they came out.
This has haunted my dreams ever since   also about the same time another stall holder had a blue snag for £18 in fair condition, thought that was to dear for me at the time :) oh well

Was trawling eBay in the early hours about 5/6 years ago & saw a Harbert ESB Yoda MOC pop up for about £150,I was gonna jump on it but wasn't sure if it was the real deal as I think it came from Argentina & had read about that scamming twat Pablo Artesi on RS.Turned out it was real & IIRC John Walsh aka BobaBlarc bought it! :(

Mmmm....sounds more like a lucky escape than a regret to me. Look like these "super minty" ones, did they? This person had THREE and all were TTs. Someone in the US did a deal direct....

That's what I was thinking too..

In the mid 90s I passed on an ESB Fett for £85 in a shop in Leicester, the funny thing is I was just about to buy it as I thought the price sticker said £35 - I thought £85 was outrageous..

My worst pass up was a load of head pull test, QC figures, most were unpainted or non production colours, some were torso only, some were complete, I passed due to the cost & being a bit skint, they were around £100 each at the time, I bought 3 of them, including this Luke Jedi, passed on another 20 or so:
