best adhesive for custom bubbles.

I've never really found any sort of glue that doesn't show up when sticking a fresh bubble to a card back. All the repairs I've ever done have been to original bubbles that have been pulled of their card backs and still have some of the paper from the card back attached to them. Then it's fairly easy to stick these back cleanly without to much damage showing up.
I know some people have used super glue but that stuff seems a bit strong to me and you really do have one chance to stick that down and hope the footer and figure line up properly (although some people do stick the footer inside the bubble). The only way I've ever thought that might work in to find a wide double sided tape sheet that you could draw around the outside of the bubble to attach it with no break in the tape. The problem would then be cutting the inside of the sheet out so that the tape is only on the part of the bubble that needs to be stuck to the card. As I've never tried to put a card back together using a custom bubble I've never given it much thought, but I'm sure there must be some way to cut the inside part out both accurately and neatly.
I'm interested to hear if anyone has any thoughts on this or if there is some sort of glue that would work.

I restored quite a few ESB back cards last year with varying degrees of success *edit* but i'm not telling you how :wink:
I found the easiest method for sticking new bubbles on custom cards is *edit* to PM me and progress through several levels of vetting before I reveal my secrets ...mwahaha! :wink:

I stopped using superglue...the chemical reaction caused clouding. I use Thermal Web sheets. No lines and sticks well.

The way I see it restoring and customs are not the same as recards or repro. If I 'restore' a knackered cardback then that's good, right? If someone like *edit* makes a custom piece that never ever existed than that's great, isn't it? Has to be. Personally I just enjoy the craft of making something beautiful, like art
I have no issue with people cleaning up yellowed Stormies and the like. I can see why some might though. Maybe it's getting rid of originality, but nothing to get upset over. Only things worth saying about chemical cleaning processes is that they don't last IMO. The yellow returns.

Actually PC...good point well made.
I also have resealed a couple of mocs, collecting on a budget, it's the way to go for me, but your point about putting tips out there for all and sundry to view and use on things like this, could be used by the wrong types.
But we are all human, and prone to make mistakes I suppose, but a good point to take on board for the future

The information I have given is not a trade secret. This will not achieve the waffle pattern and still can be detected as it gives a shiny seal. The Toni method is another one that works as well...but we all know how that went down.

I know where you're coming from PC and I did think twice before answering but as it's a forum member I know there didn't seem much harm in it. For me passing on potential tips to help a member out is a good thing but you're right that anyone could be reading these threads so we have to be careful about what information is given out.
I remember a while back thinking about posting a thread on some of my techniques for resealing but Todd pointed out to me the possible danger in doing this. It was a good point so I decided against it and maybe we should stop passing on this type of information on this forum although perhaps going the PM route would be a good way to go if there's someone's work that we admire and they know who we are. It would be up to the individual to decide if they feel comfortable passing on any tips, and I doubt anyone asking who's turned down (so to speak), would take any offence.
Just a thought and it's such a shame that we can't be a little more open about these things as the majority on here are true fans and it's just a few bad apples that spoil the bunch.

Have you tried spraymount? This would give a non permanent stick and can be removed with a little lighter fluid if needed at a later date.

Interestingly the value of cardbacks has shot up massively over the past 12 months. This has made me question whether or not I should continue my attempts to restore them. At first they were just knackered cards but now they are seemingly very collectible :?

I know what you mean about repairing card backs. Over the years I've used a few poor conditioned ones to fix up some of my reseals but it does make you wonder how much they might be worth now......saying that though they have helped to make the reseals scrub up nice so the value doesn't really come into it for me.

I am not that comfortable with threads like this out there as there are those who will use the information for the purpose of scamming people - however as Todd says, the information discussed is pretty easy to find - and it's not like Lee intends to post videos all over YouTube showing people how to do it

Is not nearly as damaging as making how to tutorials on youtube, which is what I had a massive objection to. Had Todd for example replied with the following:
"Follow this link to my youtube how to video on exactly what to do and where to get the materials", I would have:
1. Bleached my eyeballs immediately afterwards as I would have been exposed to the sight of 'Todds Rod' if his previous post rang true
2. Suggested he didn't post any more and perhaps removed the other for the same reason I did the other guy.

Dont panic, im making customs for myself and would never in a million years try to sell anything i made as real. There have been a few custom POTF etc cards sold here lately but i didnt see no commotion about those. You have to learn to realise some people make customs/repros of things they may well never own-but it doesnt always mean they are a bad apple.This is a little sidestep from everyday collecting and keeps me busy.
I can assure you that i am not asking advice for unscrupulous ventures, and i hope many here will vouch for me and know i woulndt do such a thing.

I also want to add that I think the rise in cardback values is due to people resealing figures to the exact cardbacks they are purchasing.
