A few that have been noted already and a couple of others below. These all resonated with me immediately when posed the question:

Nightlore - Spectrum - thanks Cazza, i think I would've forgotten this absolute gem of a game!
Jet Set Willy - Spectrum
Manic Miner - Spectrum
Saboteur - Spectrum
Daley Thompson Decathelon - Spectrum
Star Wars - BBC Micro
Tetris - Gameboy
Super Star Wars - Super NES
Sensible Soccer - Mega Drive
Bubble Bobble - Mega Drive
Tomb Raider 2 - Playstation
Tekken 2 - Playstation
Tony Hawks 2 - Playstation
Uncharted 1&2 - Playstation

I also remember a game called Shinobi (can't remember the system) that I played a lot

Great thread.. and some great choices. Reminds you of ones you forgot about. It all started with my Acorn Electron and these two:

Also remember lots of Pacman and Frogger on my cousins Atari 2600. Soon after it was the Arcades, 10p a play! Some of my favourites were Paperboy, Shinobi, Double Dragon, Super Sprint, Return of the Jedi, Golden Axe, Outrun, 1942 and Commando amongst others. When I was at senior school consoles started to get good with the Megadrive and Snes and the countless hours I spent playing these two with my mates was ridiculous. Two of the best games ever made in my opinion.

image.jpg

PS1 was a good era, changed everything, played loads of Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, Wipeout, Grand Theft Auto, Worms, Destruction Derby 2, Doom and Die Hard Trilogy. And there was some great driving games like Toca Touring cars and V-Rally. PS2 used to cain Socom US Navy Seals 1 & 2, Star Wars Battlefront, Medal of Honour and Tony Hawkes Pro Skater 3. Also discovered Halo on my Friends XBOX. Don't play much new games now but I do love Halo Reach and Halo 4. I think the best games that have stuck with me are the ones you play sitting around with mates and piss yourself laughing at their demise and for that reason my best game of all time is Worms on the PS1:

Was Metal Gear listed yet?

The original NES version or the PS1 version? Cos the original was a bit rubbish :p

Been thinking on it, and here's some of my favourite games for every game system I own!

Spectrum- Spellbound Dizzy

Amstrad- Barbarian (the first game that let me experience some gaming gore- lopping of enemy heads! This was pre-Mortal Kombat!)

Atari 2600- Solaris (Awesome 3D effect space shooter that really pushed the limits of the Atari and was one of the last Atari games made)

NES- The Legend of Zelda

SNES- Super Metroid

Sega Master System- Psychic World (Not very well known, but this action sidescroller is a blast!)

Sega Megadrive- Road Rash

Game Boy- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III Radical Rescue (This is such a hidden gem! One of my favourites on this whole list!!)

Gameboy Color- Metal Gear Solid (Nothing to do with Ps1 version, but still a game that kicks ass)

GBA- Pokemon Fire Red/Leaf Green

Nintendo DS- New Super Mario Bros.

3DS- The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time (originally a N64 title but the 3DS release gave it a much needed graphical overhaul!)

N64- Conker 's Bad Fur Day

Playstation- Resident Evil (has the worst dialogue I have experienced in any game and possibly movie, but being shoved in a zombie infested mansion with limited ammo? Perfect!)

PS2- Project Zero (One of the scariest games I've ever played!)

Nintendo Gamecube- Star Wars Rogue Leader (first Star Wars game to really graphically satisfy me AND let me blow up the Death Star from a cockpit view!)

Original Xbox- Halo Combat Evolved

Xbox 360- The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Xbox One- Fallout 4

Nintendo Wii- Mario Kart

Nintendo Wii U- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

PS4- Crash Bandicoot N.Sane trilogy

Phew. Think I'm done for now. Tough choosing just one for every system, but I could list and list and list!

Bloody hell starshipriot, you've got a **** load of hardware/consoles  I'd never know what to play! I can play Nes, Snes, Megadrive, PS1, PS2 and XBOX 360 games and I rarely have time to play any of that 8)

It's all subjective but I've been a gamer since the ZX81 days so my list would be something like this

Manic Miner
Kokotoni Wilf
Sabrewulf
Zelda a link to the Past
Super Star Wars
Soul Reaver series
Dark Souls series
Destiny

Those are my favourites, I still play on PS4 so if anybody wants to add a fellow collector my PSN is Fuzzybee
Here are a couple of pics of my 8bit framed computers. Gaming was just simpler and arguably better back in the early days.

Almost impossible to do a top 5 but off the top of my head:

1) Monkey Island (1 or 2) (Amiga)
2) Zelda Link To The Past (SNES)
3) Mario 64 (N64)
4) Street Fighter 2 Champion Edition (got to be the arcade version)
5) Super Empire Strikes Back (SNES)

First ever experience playing games was on a friends Atari 2600 around 1979/80, 32 in 1, tanks and planes.

At the arcades it was always Phoenix, Galaxian, Pacland, TMNT, Bad Dudes Vs. Dragon Ninja, Chase HQ.

My first computer was the Amstrad CPC464, mainly played Dynamite Dan, Pyjamarama, Jet Set Willy, 1943, Yi-ar Kung Fu and Target Renegade.

First console was the Sega Megadrive, was all about Sonic, Road Rash, Super Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat, Streets of Rage II, PGA European Tour.

Sega Saturn - Street Fighter Alpha, Fifa 96, Daytona, Sega Rally Championship, Virtua Fighter.

Playstation 1 - Twisted Metal 2, Crash Bandicoot, Tomb Raider, Worms.

Playstation 2 - GTA San Andreas, Need for Speed, Manhunt, The Warriors.

Playstation 3 - Sonic & Sega worldwide racing, Red Dead Redemption, Tiger Woods, Burnout, Star Wars The Force Unleashed 1 & 2.

Playstation 4 - Star Wars Battlefront, GTA 5, No Man's Sky.

Still play most of the above (up to the PS1) on the Raspberry pi.
