This is very sad news indeed. His contribution to Star Wars was immense, and many people attribute Return of the Jedi's relative dip in quality compared to Star Wars and Empire directly to Gary parting ways with George Lucas after Empire. He was clearly a very talented man dedicated to his craft.

My condolences to his friends and family.

Rest in peace, Mr Kurtz.

Sad news but his name will always be remembered by us SW fans, it really wouldn't have been the same without him and he will be missed.

Very sad news, we should cherish the remaining crew while they are still here, it's been 40 years now!

I just found this whilst looking for images of something else. Makes me sad. A great man and a big part of Star Wars.
