Well, today is my sister-in-law's 40th birthday party and she's organised a 80's themed fancy dress thing. I could have gone as anything ESB/ROTJ but that felt like cheating. Can't think what prompted it, but I decided Ghostbusters. The proton pack was always going to be a challenge as I did want a semi-screen accurate one. This guy seemed to have the plans:

I don't think I had an expectation as to how long it was going to take, but I think it ended up taking me 8 full days to create the below pack. It's not 100% to the plans, but is about 95%. It isn't quite finished but it's good enough for a fancy dress party! Would have liked to add some weathering to it, but too late now. Unfortunately I blew out on the Neutron Wand as I simply ran out of time. That I will get around to, but god only knows when. Looks seriously complicated.

The pack lights up, too :) Think my total spend on it was around £70. The costume cost the same again as I wanted the right jumpsuit and that along cost £57 from Germany.

I have to say, it has been AWESOME fun to make. Wish I could have the time and start again as I learnt a lot from my mistakes and have an idea of what materials to use. I had so much fun I wouldn't mind doing it full time.

Wife thinks I'm nuts. She has a point.

great build, looks super that.

Have to get a vid up of it lit up, our wives think we are all nuts...par for the course

Thanks, guys. It went down a storm at the party which was a good one. Out of 90 odd people the only duplicates were a pair of Bananamen. Although one appeared to have an extra prop banana placed somewhere most inappropriate....

The pack survived the night brilliantly. It got knocked every few minutes as somehow folk failed to see it despite the lights! I also bounced it off a couple of walls and doorways, too. Nothing to do with the Guinness :D Next day revealed some minor paint loss (have it the weathered look I was after!) and a small amount of damage to a foam part which is easily repaired with filler and more black paint.

Michael, will stick up a photos of it with lights over the next couple of days. Thought I'd taken one but I hadn't.

Grinchy, words of praise from the prop master himself carry extra weight: I am now officially chuffed with it ;)

Over the next week I'll also stick up some photos of the competed outfit. I wasn't sure it would look any good due to lack of goggles, wand and other screen used props but overall, to all but a GB fanboy, it was looked pretty good.

That looks amazing! Does it work?

Glad it whent down well at the party. :)

I'm a huge GB fan Simon so this is amazing! Have you got a pic of you suited up? You must have been the tallest Ghostbuster ever :D

I love seeing stuff like this mate! I think its the same build as a fella i know whos just sent me a video of his finished and he has sound aswell. If i can get the vid up i will.....

Theforceuk, Damien and Joe, thanks fellas : ) I'll get a goofy looking photo up later. Doesn't show the pack specifically but I am wearing it so you can see the rest of the outfit.

Chiffy, I would love to put sound on this thing! I see the kits are available stateside but lacking over here. The lighting kit alone is £40 and for a bunch of LEDs that's way too much. I did my own thing with those cool LED strips for less than half that and it works for me. Would like sound though....

I have just bought an Alice pack from ebay so can now get this properly mounted on a movie accurate frame as oppose to my British 58 webbing, which was not designed to carry such weights and was quite uncomfortable. Added another £42 to the bill but that doesn't bother me. It's so close to being done it would be a sin to stop short. All the hard work's been done, after all. Looks like I'll end up buying a set of prop ecto goggles as done by Matty as I just can't find the right base to make my own. Still want to make the wand but I'll have to see if that's even practical.

Theres a pair of matty ecto goggles on the bay at the moment for £70 with 1 bid, bargain as theyre around £200!

Thanks Chiffy, got them in my watch list :)

I had won a wand on eBay.com for only £107 but he wanted to send it via GSP which took that price to £170! He wasn't bothered about cancelling the sale as it went too cheap. Still on the look out for one, though.
