Does anyone have a picture of what mould spots look like on figures ? I'm not talking about carded figures just the actual figures themselves, thanks

Any pics ? Can it spread to other figures ?

I'm in no way a mold expert but there are different types of mold in this here world and the brown spots that occur on figures is more of a subsurface issue, if it is a legitimate mold? (as I stated I'm no mold expert). As for the spreading, just wash your figure with mild soap and warm water to wash away any mold (if that's what it is) from the surface eliminating any fear of spreading. Better yet freeze the mold!

Yeah I have heard about it spreading but have never seen it happen - although I did pick up a collection once where pretty much 5 or 6 biker scouts all had it but they had been kept together since coming off the card so were probably exposed to whatever caused it all that the same time

I have never found a way to completely remove it but Paul is right about soap and water - I'd give them a bath and see if that helps

I have found a few of them in childhood collections and if it was spreading to other figures then I think all the other figures in a lot should also have the spots.

Not long ago I found one in a lot of maybe 50 figures, seller told me they have been laying in that case for maybe 30 years. Only one figure was sick. It has been the same in other childhood collections I have found. I think it is just bad plastic in some productions.

Some of the sick figures can also be found again and again with the same coo :(

I have seen the spots on farmer luke, chewbacca and kenobi.

My Leia Organa and a Stormy had these. A hydrogen peroxide bath completely removed them. You have to be careful with certain colours though, as hydrogen peroxide will remove these from the figure as well. I just put the Leia in up to her neck

I have never heard it could remove spots like that, thanks for the info

We have hydrogen peroxide in the house, as it has disinfectant properties, great for cleaning bathroom tiles and grout etc.

It can be bought over the counter from places like Boots in the UK.

Would imagine it's available online as well.

Personally with a figure I would try soapy warm water and a soft tooth brush first, a few times, as this won't affect the paint on the figure and usually works fine.

I have tried to find it in denmark but I could not find it here  so looks like I have to buy it on the internet in the uk :?

Soap and a tooth brush does not remove the spots only dirt :D

So it is ok do you think to mix figures with these spots on with figures with no spots on ? Any links/evidence from people who say it can spread to other figures? Thanks

I do not mix them with my other items, normally I sell them, unless it is a variant I do not have.

But why whould it spread if it has been in a box with a lot of other figures, then all the others should also have spots :?

Really can't see this spreading unless the damage has occurred very recently and the spores are still hanging around. Looks as thought the mold damages the surface and probably dies or whatever mold does. With figures that are so badly discoloured I would use the hydrogen peroxide route. Nothing to lose

So where do you buy it ?
