Hi folks,

Been meaning to look this out for a while to get your thoughts. My mum brought a couple of Polish figures back for me in the late 80s when visiting family. I opened most of them but still have this snow trooper. The packaging isn't up to much (Understatement  ), the bubble is stapled onto the backing card which is only printed single side. Any ideas? Not looking to part with it as it one of the pieces in my collection that really connects with my childhood but just curious.

Hi there, That's truly a rare piece (ANY carded Polish figure is rare as ****). It's a 2nd generation Polish articulated. Condition on these doesn't mean much. The last known sale of a carded 2nd gen Polish fig (that wasn't a Fett) went for just under $1k. I would expect one to sell for at least double that amount on the open market. I'm going to PM you with more info about the piece.

Cheers
Joe

That's a great piece and if anyone is going to give you some sound advice the it is Joe

I guess the only issue is that knowing the value on that one can only make you seriously regret opening the others !!

Thanks for the info Joe, much appreciated. I thought it was quite rare as I had never seen a carded one but never thought for a second it was that scarce

And yes Iain absolutely kicking myself for opening the others. I was a few years too young to catch Star Wars at its peak, so all my collection as a kid came from car boot sales. Even though the polish figures looked a bit funny it was a real novelty to see any type of carded figure. Could be worse, At least I left one unopened!

That's awesome, what a find!

Joe, any idea if the Trilogo Stormie was the inspiration for the card? It almost looks like a cut and paste job using a Trilogo cardback for the stormie picture and the ROTJ logo :D

edit: The more I look at it, the more I think it was! Look at the bottom left of the ROTJ racetrack/border, someone has filled in the missing part with a white right angled corner! :D

Not really a bootleg guy, but that's the first time I've seen a packed one of those and I have to admit it looks great in all its cheapness.

I love it when people turn stuff like this up in their collection. It's even better when they have the story to go with it rather than finding it in the wild.

Nice piece. Glad you are erring on not selling it. It's worth a lot of dough but when it's gone it's a piece of your childhood you will never be able to replace. Do you still have the opened ones as well?

Could you post a close up of the gun? I'd love to see what weapon was packe with him.

Hi Walkie, the figure is back in storage at the moment. I'm going back to get some better photos for Joe's bootleg website in a few weeks so will post some photos of the weapon when I do - can't recall from memory.

Mr-shifter - the only other Polish figure I can find is the biker scout so maybe there was only two. From memory his weapon is similar in design to the original Kenner but larger and less defined mould.

Given how many Polish bootlegs are out there, I've always wondered why there are so few carded examples.

Think about it - I've seen more carded Uzays and Hungarian bootlegs and even loose versions of those are tough to come by. But there are oodles and OODLES of loose Polish bootlegs - why are there SO few carded examples? It doesn't make sense.

Pat

PS. Amazing example btw. Just stunning.

Its a good point. I've only ever seen images of the Uzay & Hungarian packaging, but certainly the Uzays look a lot more robust than the polish packaging. The bubble plastic and 'cardback' (its very thin stock) are pretty flimsy so i'm sure many just disintegrated over the years.

Just a hunch, but the other countries bootlegs appear much closer to the Kenner originals. I wonder if the quality of the Polish figures at the time resulted in them being ignored by collectors?
