Anyone used to read this in the 80's? - Scream comic. I think they only did 15 issues in 1984 before the company went into administration ..and the IPC pulled the plug due to horrific content :?

http://backfromthedepths.co.uk/scream_comic_artwork/frontcovers/index.htm

The layout was something along the 2000AD theme - several illustrated stories that ran a few weeks at a time. Some of the more popular ones were Monster, The Thirteenth Floor and Dracula Files. Thirteenth Floor was my favorite with the block elevator that took you to another dimension 'of fear'. Generally the people who went to the 13th floor were **** bags who deserved to die. I remember the first issue came with Dracula fangs and the next one had a rubber spider that stuck on windows. What a great comic. I believe it was produced again later on and may still be going. The first 15 were the classics though. Just ordered one to frame ...after i've read it :)

Loads for sale on Ebay - No. 1 below

I had a few of these I had one that came with glow in the dark skull badge. A few of the strips were merged into Eagle if I remember correctly

I remember that comic very well and in fact still have a complete set of every issue that I bought back in the day. The first issue came with vampire teeth (those have gone) and the second came with a small rubber spider (still have that sealed in it's plastic bag and attached to the front cover). I remember someone else on ebay selling a glow in the dark skull from this comic but it turned out to be from another comic as the two free gifts I've mentioned are the only ones that came with the comics.

I also put together the 4 summer specials last year to complete my run but that's as far as I'll go, think I can live without the Eagle merger ones.

It's a great read with some cool artwork and I know Alan Moore did some work on it which is a bonus (he of The Watchmen fame, he may have only worked on the summer specials?). It's a shame that it was pulled from the shelves after only a short run but I guess there just wasn't enough interest in it.

As a side note I used to also have the first 100 2000 AD comics that I collected when they came out. I remember coming home from school one day to find that my Mum had thrown them all out!!!!
Such a shame as they're a great read but I did carry on buying them for many years after and again put together the first 20 issues a couple of years ago for old times sake. I didn't go crazy and buy the first issues with free gifts as they cost a small fortune although I did print a high quality picture to scale of the Biotronic stickers from the second issue and I also managed to bag the third issue with it's free gift for a steal (Red Alert wallet) :D .

I think the comics from back in the day were pretty well written and drawn with some real grit. The only other ones I had were the Star Wars weekly's (go figure), The Beano (classic and I still have the first 40 Beano comic library's) and Warlord comic (from back when children still played with Action Man).

Here are some links to a few things although I wish I'd bid on the Biotronic stickers :(

Superb post. Nice one :)

Thinking back Scream was probably in my top 5 comics as a kid. I guess the upside to it having such a low production run is that it makes collecting easy.

That's true enough x-pack and you can pick up a set fairly cheaply with a bit of patience. Let's just hope there's no talk of bringing it back and sending the prices through the roof like a certain space film which starts with "A long time ago in a galaxy far far away...."!

The Thirteenth Floor... the main character was a talking computer called Max if I remember correctly?

Never bought the original issues of Scream, but I used to read Eagle and still have the ones from when they merged which they titled "Eagle and Scream" originally enough :)

Max. That strip was creepy. The whole comic was! Great stuff :p

13th Floor is the only one I really remember. Used to read it in the back of the Cortina when my dad picked me up from school for the weekend. Can't wait for the one i've bought to turn up. Can see a collecting spree coming on :D

These British comics don't seem to command high prices. Any time i've tried to get hold of something such as Dredd, 2000AD or this latest one they seem quite reasonable considering the rarity. It's a world I haven't delved into deeply enough to know what makes a comic valuable.

I reckon if they hold nostalgic value for you, get them - doesn't matter if they are worth no more in 15 years time. Some of the covers are really cool and would be good framed.

This is the one I bought - http://www.comicvine.com/scream-6-scream-6/4000-219535/

They do hold sentimental value for me and you have to admit they still look great. That cover makes me want to read on :D

It's funny that you're the second person who thought it came with Scream. Maybe you're right about them also putting it with some scream comics in the newsagents. It's cool to see the packaging that came with it though although I've never heard of Spike comic.
