Does anyone know why this book had such a limited run??

The secondary market price is ridiculous.

It just does not make sense. The author obviously worked very hard on this publication, so you would think they would flood the market with them so they could make more money and satisfy demand...

Surely they must have known the demand for this book would be massive. Why would they fuel the secondary market like this. Just rips off genuine collectors...

I don't think he did realise how popular it would be. With any 1st edition print run its a big gamble as to how many copies you produce - if you do too many and they don't sell you're out of pocket

I'm surprised that there hasn't been a second edition, but it may be that only 100 or so people would actually buy it which would make a second run too expensive.

At my work we publish using 'print on demand' - it works well but the quality isn't as good as proper runs.

It's a good book :)

I seem to remember it did take a few years for the first printing to sell out. I kept holding off, but as soon as John posted on RS that the stock was low, I knew it was time to pick up a copy. I wish now I hadn't waited so long. I seem to remember one showing up on ebay recently and ending around $70 which isn't too bad especially compared to the prices you posted. I would just keep an eye out and you should get one for a semi decent price.

ANYONE charging more than Brian's toys is taking the piss!
Their prices are normally astronomically more than the item is worth (or can be bought for elsewhere) so the fact his is so much more than BT's would suggest to me he is on something!

the book was too anal collector orientated with all these card digits and numbers, and that type of thing really dont interest me at all, i like a fun read

but it is a great book in its own right and John suffered a few strokes recently and is only just getting better but cant see too well and he said he wont be doing a second print

LMAO Lee, how is it for an anal collector because of all the digits and numbered card back matrixes?
For a man who trims the corner of his pages if they curl that makes me laugh!Sheeesh talk about anal!
This is one of the best books going around IMO, particulary for American carded figures and proofs! If you dont own one and you collect carded stuff your mad not to!

Yeah I am glad John went through all the trouble with numbers and things of that nature. The mail-away section was invaluable for me when I was collecting those. That was how I made sure I had the correct boxes with the correct label numbers. When I am looking for a fun read I still like to thumb through Sansweet's Concept to Screen to Collectible book or his Action Figure archive book.

I owned one and sold it the very next week card matrixes hold no interest to me whatsoever I really couldnt give two shits whats on the back on the card or if its the third 4th of 5th released card plus I dont own no kenner cards :)

its great for collectors who like that type of thing though and very well made

the best book in my opinion by far is the action figure archive by josh ling and steve sansweet

It's a good book - but its just a load of pictures, and only the first wave of the modern figures.

The Japanese database vol 1 is the best for pictures of vintage - it's got everything

is this book just full of cardback pics?

Bollux,

This book is very imformative. It has millions of pictures of cardbacks and other items like mailers, 3 packs and special offer items.

If you get a chance to pick one up its well worth it. I have learned a fair bit from it.

Cheers.

Grant.

PS Not sure if my local Heros For Sale shop has any left but I would check on your behalf If you need a copy.

Cheers.

I'd be interested Grant. If you're passing mate, have a look for me. Thanks
I missed one on ebay the other night for £45.
