Hi, how's it going?
First post here so hoping i'm within the forum rules!
I'm based in the Cambridge area, and a long time ago, I won a competition at a local cinema and acquired this beast.
It's a theater standee (by Drissi Advertising) for THE STAR WARS TRILOGY - SPECIAL EDITION and arrived in lobbies in late November 1996. This piece is very impressive; it measures 9'6" wide by 5'4" to the top of Darth Vader's head. The letters "Star Wars" are a clever 3-D display with 14 characters (see close-up) and the Death Star II on and around them.
The standee takes over 3 hours to assemble and weighs approx. 35 pounds. It's held together with over 40 metal & plastic bolts with wing nuts as well as numerous cardboard tabs. Side note; The instructions list each cardboard character by name except they refer to the "Jawa" as "Sand Person".
The beauty and graphic design of this piece is breathtaking. The shipping carton is 6' tall and 2.5' wide.
Ever since it's been stored, mint in its box (un-assembled) in a cool dry place but it's time to let it go.
I'm struggling to find any more info about the piece but happy to chat to anyone if they are interested.
