It's not mainstream now and never has been. Talk to 100 people about it and you'd be lucky if any more then a couple will know anything more than the blindingly obvious.

By default SW collecting will always be niche, simply because of the vast array of options

Figures
Variants
Vehicles
Boxed or unboxed
Mocs
Baggies
Investment
Childhood collecting

Etc etc etc ......

As you immerse yourself in SW collecting you become drawn to certain areas, and collect, then maybe the dream wanes and you sell up and come back later with a quite different perspective

There are so many variables in collecting SW it will never be classed as mainstream.

Personally as well, I'm not bothehered about categorising and putting things in to neat boxes in life, SW is mainstream to collectors in SW and becomes obsessive

Crazy when you think about it how a niche hobby drives prices to insane levels.

i blame facebook for that

Most likely true, it doesn't surprise me one bit, things do get a bit out of hand on facebook with how people behave on there.
