I'm rabidly anti-repro, and the only piece in my collection that is such is the sabre for my pop up r2 - which is a place warmer for when I find a real one, and was only bought because it was the one figure that BUGGED me every time I looked at it.

Now then, I stumbled over this on ebay, and was wondering if anyone has bought one, and what you guys think about figures like this ?

Personally, I kinda like customs - though thus far the only one I have is an AWESOME holiday special Fett.

Is this the one figure that really SHOULD have got a release?

The problem here is the seller - this account is closely associated with that twat Chris Smith. You only have to look at his other listings to see what sort of seller he is, and that's he's not into producing customs for the love of the hobby but for deceiving people and making money.

Here are his other listings

Here is a particular problem custom

If it was taken in isolation as a one off I wouldn't of had a problem with it as customs can be nice, but because it's paugildin-6 I'd not want to line his pockets as it's creating a bigger problem for the hobby. He started off small with the Princess Leia Blaster repros that he said was an old Palitoy find (now known to be a massive lie) and is just getting bigger and bigger.

I think it would have been nice to have a Han Stormtrooper official release.

I can't imagine why they didn't bother, they did Luke, surely it would have made sense so people could have the pair?

It is a nice idea but I would never buy this, purely because it fans the flames of repro stuff, and gives these guys the money to carry on doing it. I know he states that all his stuff is repro, but someone else may buy his stuff and pass it off as real.

I like the idea of the custom figures, and thing it's potentially a great way of extending the range....specifically with figures that should have been released like the Han stormtrooper, which looks cool. 8)

Personally if did have a go, i would only use vintage pieces (beaters)....keep away from sculpting and keep away from using modern Star Wars stuff.

Came across this site which looks interesting. https://www.thevintagestudiostore.com/

This site looks like a potential solution (would need to read up on them). Looks like they've done 2 figures to date with a third due for release. No doubt they'll get round to doing a Han. Here's a pic of their fleet trooper.

Quite like the Vader...not sure on his sabre though.

I am not a loose collector but looking at what this guy is trying to sell I must agree he is not adding anything to the Hobby just making it more difficult for collectors moving forward as I presume his copies are difficult to differentiate from the originals making loose collecting more precarious both now and in the future.

Sellers that solely focus on Customs seem harmless enough as they can not be passed off as original as they were never made and I guess they can look good in certain Dioramas.

Thanks for the input guys.

Cheers for that heads up TheJabbaWookie mate - did not know this was the same guy that did the Leia repro's.

I won't knowingly be buying anything from scum like him.

That vintage studio looks cool though !

Shame the stormtrooper came with a fixed head since it would be great to make my own Han stormie from a beat up Han small head and stormie.
I don't fancy doing it from a beat up luke Stormie which I'd have to probably pay £30 + for..
When I read the opening comment here I immediately thought that the best character missing from the vintage line was the rebel fleet trooper - it's grat to see you can buy them in the mould of the vintage line - will have to try and buy a couple of those :D Let's hope they do a Han stormie too :)

ps just had a look at the website and the rebel trooper platoon 4 pack looks the dogs - $140 is a bit of a stumbling block though :(

$140 dollars does seem a lot. Especially when Royal Mail will get their sticky fingers on the additional handing charge.

Maybe getting a few people to all do a multi buy makes most economical sense.

As for that prick on eBay with his Han Stormtroopers, I might have given him a pass without those repro weapons. But nope. He's a prick.
