Bit of advice please as l'm no expert. I have a 1983 Luke Jedi Knight which lm considering selling, it has original weapon and original blue lightsabre. The question l have is regarding the Cape (snap together) which is still bagged, the bag isn't sealed and l could remove it if l wished but l don't think it's ever been taken out. Is it better to leave it in the bag, or take it it out so that the figure looks complete? Thanks in advance for any thoughts. Baz

Mate for keeping the history with the piece; please keep the cape sealed in the baggie.

If you're looking to sell; I would like to buy to preserve the piece.

Def keep the cape in the bag and preserve the history

Hopefully someone will chip in with information on the piece

Blue saber Luke Jedi Mocs are always sought after so this is a nice piece for a collector in its good condition

Obviously you have done the right thing by keeping it as is and posting up a thread on it so good on you for that

Anyone that knows me will testify that I know nothing about variants, but I do know a bit no matter what they say... :?

Isn't this a painted face or pale face Luke?
I believe that these are more desirable?
So what I'm saying is that if your selling, please seek advice or do some research.

I would definitely leave the original cape in the bag, but to display him I would get another cape, I don't think they are too expensive.

If you are looking for a reliable trustworthy buyer who will treasure and preserve the history of your Luke Jedi piece (if you decide to sell) look no further than Craig T. He has to have one of the greatest Luke Jedi collections in the community, is at the forefront of all the knowledge gained on this figure and am sure he will offer you a good honest price for it.

Thanks, for all the replies l really appreciate the input as although l'm a fan of the figures l am no way an expert. With regards to the Cape and to be exact the tape has been removed from one side and therefore it's not technically sealed. Having said that I'm confident it hasn't been out of the bag and used due to the way it is folded. This may have a relevance though as lm guessing that technically it cannot be described as sealed. Thanks Baz

As you say better to keep in the bag, can you feel the cape through the bag, reason I ask is if the cape is a snap cape ( which you would feel the press stud) or a stitched cape.

Yes, that's how l know that it's a snap together Cape, l can feel the studs if l press down with my finger

So (and I'm a complete novice) I think the early Mocs with LJ and the blue saber generally had the snap cape, the stitched cape was cheaper to produce ( no press stud) so came later with the green saber.

There is info on Wolffs guide TIG and RS re moulded face/painted face Luke Jedi etc worth a read up and checking the COO on your figure.

There were three different vendors (factories in the Far East) that made the Luke Jedi MOCs for Kenner.

Smile of Hong Kong
(Figure COO = "Hong Kong", Vendor Code = "HN")

Unitoys of Hong Kong
(Figure COO = "Made in Hong Kong", Vendor Code = "HT")

U.M. of Taiwan
(Figure COO = "Made in Taiwan", Vendor Code = "TJ")

Note if you are looking at a MOC, or Kenner cardback for Luke Jedi, you can find the vendor code on the reverse next to the POP seal.

Initially ... all three vendors released their Luke Jedi figures on 65-A MOCs with a snap cape neatly folded in a baggie. They only appear on the very first releases of 65-A and so are very hard to find.

Second releases of Luke Jedi from each vendor, still contained a snap cape, but it was no-longer supplied in a baggie, it was placed loose inside with Luke.

Note each vendor made their own accessories, so there are 3 different snap capes.

For the one shown, this is from Smile, the face is painted on a head moulded in hair coloured plastic. The COO is "Hong Kong" The sabre should be blue.

Moulded face Luke were only released by Taiwan and then only ever with green sabres.

This is probably too much info and without loads of photos. Happy to make a Luke Jedi guide in the Forum if required.

Thanks for that, far more than l could probably find out myself. I've taken some more pictures of the figure itself (they're not brilliant). To me it looks like a painted face on the hair coloured head that you mentioned?

Can l ask which is the more common, it was mentioned earlier in the thread that painted faces were however when l search on line the molded face would seem to be rarer?
