Had a root in the storage for my 12 inch vintage and found this fella

Has a battery compartment so cleaning the contacts to see if it's working

Any help on ID for this

Is it the radio controlled R2 ?

Not the standard 12 inch with Death Star plans

It certainly looks radio controlled with the battery contact points but the back looks a bit different to the vintage radio controlled R2D2, it doesn't seem to have the on/off switch and it opens all the way up. Does it have the Kenner 1978 date stamp on it? Here's a pic of a vintage one to compare with yours.

The back of the 12 inch line R2D2 just has a little compartment to hold the plans.

Great stuff, thanks for the ID

Looks like this version was UK release with talking and 4 phrases, but they used the same mouldings for the US release 12 inch non talking version, that came with the Death Star plans

Need to clean and do some work on the little fella now see if I can get the vote working again

Thanks again for the ID advice on this Gents, much appreciated

Looks like he will have to stay voiceless for now
One of the screws is really corroded and can't get the beggar out!

No problem :) As a kid I had the R2 with the death star plans and another kid I knew had the talking R2. It's much nicer looking than the RC version IMO, and even though I haven't seen one for about 40 years I can still remember what the talking R2 sounded like!

Mike, isn't it possible to drill the head off the corroded screw...being very careful of course.

Yes, but I don't have a small enough drill have to get one, just a bit wary of drilling it don't want to damage it
