NFS obv.

Would anyone be interested in photos or details? I obviously Loved the mailaways due to the amount of missing name tags!

I am enjoying the retro price tags - so may upload those anyway. 75p EV-9D9 from Asda is a favourite!

Right! I am going to try and do this tonight when the wife is in bed.

UKSWIFE: "What are you up to at this time of night?!"

UKS: "Errr.... It's a pornography website. I was buying pornography."

Ok, here is the first (major!) batch. I'll pulled out all the Kenners and put to one side, and most the Palitoy ROTJ Like Bib, Klatuu etc.

Bizzarely, (as I would have only been 4 or 5) I can remember purchasing some of these - and a few still have shop labels on! I will ID where I can...

The story behind these, is as far as I can remember, whenever I got a new Star Wars figure, I would put the cardback into "my drawer" which was in a standard MFI cupboard from the seventies. I loaded a variety of childhood things into that drawer intill about 1989 when it was full and then I must have stopped. That drawer remained *untouched* until my parents passed away about 7 years ago and we had to clear the house. I put the cardbacks into a box folder and put it to one side, where it was "lost* until I found it in the garage the other day.

My great sadness was not keeping that drawer as a time capsule. It was a hard time (obvs) and so I didn't really think like that - but all the emphemera in that drawer and how it was layered (just like an archeological dig!) would have been fascinating for any photo-pop-retro-historian.

Just to give a taste, it was full of things like old school books, Superman 3 rub games that came in cereal, Black Couldron Kellogs give-aways and finished with a bad drawing of the Ogre from the GW bloodbowl game!

Anyway, onto the cardbacks!

This is the Bristol Debenhams! I always remember the figures being much more expensive there - In the "fancy" department store

Yet Boba is more expensive! This is almost certainly the second Boba I got - This is from Martins - Which IIRC was a toy shop in a South Bristol shopping centre called Broad Walk. I remember it being huge and awesome selling TCR and Airfix, Action Man and Star Wars - This is probably rose tinted glasses!

Beatties! My favourite toy shop (and the only one I could reach from 89-94) My brother was married at the registry office behind it in the mid eighties and I tried to persuade them to take me there during a lull in the wedding proceedings. No such luck! :-(

This is the oldest cardback from my childhood surviving. I did have a SW Greedo Kenner Cardback but that has disappeared over the years. :-( :-( Interestingly, not the first figure I bought - Not even close - Which shows how cards hung around in shops!

Then we have the monster that is ASDA! I imagine this would have been where most my toys came from. My mum shopped there every week and I would often go along. My parents NEVER went into central Bristol - So if it was at ASDA - I had a chance of getting it.

Those are brilliant! Great memories- thanks for sharing mate 8) Funny how Debenhams was more expensive- I remember McIlroys in Swindon being like that- I always looked in there, but never bought anything as thought it was a rip-off. Are you still in Brizzle?

I'm in a village a few miles outside these days. But yes, still there or thereabouts!

Nice one. Lived in Cirencester as a kid and visited Bristol occasionally for family shopping trips. Don't remember buying any SW there though. Work in Thornbury now, so not a million miles away.

Great to see your childhood collection and is the Martins toyshop the one in Kingswood? If it is we may well have bumped into each other back in the day :D
