First post for me for a while on the forum (sorry Ed mate), so this must be serious!
I concur with the points raised so far, especially that of Stuart's that your health must be the priority.

Without wanting to offend anyone, I amongst others have often referred to Farthest From as the Mecca for Vintage Collectors. It is the place to go to for the collective experience of collecting. It's certainly not as clinical as other collecting purchasing options but it's always been far more than that.
If it weren't for Farthest From the collecting community as we know it would be vastly different. The fun we've had, the purchases we've made, the stories shared, the money we've raised, the pubs we've been banned from, the list goes on. Oh, and the true friendships forged!!

I've missed 5 (wow that's 25%!!): Deployed in Afghanistan twice, deployed to another location with work, the London Marathon and this latest one (too short notice/commitments).
That said, Dave I guess you'll never know the things that people have missed to go to Farthest From. I've definitely missed other big socials and family events to make it there. I'm sure there are lots of examples of when people have missed other things to go to farthest From because it is that important to them.

From what I have seen Dave you have always tried to innovate, good on you. You have always tried to tinker with it and make improvements. The funny thing is about Star Wars, is that George Lucas also tinkered with his baby and people were up in arms! Maybe don't tinker, we loved it how it was originally. Your love letter to collecting, we don't need much more. Simple creatures are we.

For what it's worth, i'll give my 2 pence worth having been to these from Day 1.
1, Have you considered going for 2 shows rather than 3? Concentrated goodness rather than possibly diluted over 3? For me the Christmas one is a must have, it's always been good fun. Maybe the other one could be in late June early July to prevent the likelihood of people being away on holiday (school hols). You'd also be separated from Echo Live who seem to opt for Apr/May and October.

2, I'm sure everyone misses the presentations, hell I even tried to give one myself once. The presentations had to be shelved due to the growing interest from vendors, so the previous space reserved for the stage/chairs was needed. I appreciate that the evening elements were added as a substitute for the presentations. The lads don't need an evening session, they create their own entertainment. Save yourself the stress and come and have a beer with us. Keep the formula simple.

3, I think i've asked this before and you've given the answer (but i have a brain like a sieve), could panels in the afternoon get put on upstairs? It would keep people enthused. People would always hang around for the panels.

4, The sooner you can inform people of dates etc. the better.

As others have said, this is a community event. Let the community help. What do you need from us to assist with the planning/prep?

I’ve said this to you privately but will state publicly too. I, and many others, have always appreciated what you do at FF. I think in a big celebration year 3 was too much, and the timing with Echo and Burnley so close compounded it. I’ve been to most FF and the April one always seems to be the problem one with work etc.

The August one is a must. Much easier to work out travel for those going a distance in the school hols. A few are making extended breaks to include FF in the hols. December is obviously a must.

The problems I get, and are shared around, usually revolve around notice of dates. I’m planning things for October and November for work now. Echo had the same problem but have started to announce way earlier. By the time FF is announced it often seems a rush job to plan and then push promotion for it. If April FF was announced before Christmas it may have been easier to plan. It’s not easy sorting out a 2 day mini break with work and family life.

Announce a date asap. Leave the Sat evening for us to drink and be merry. We will all share it far and wide.

Dave,

I came to my first FF 2014 and knew no one, from the seed of that FF and the many other I have attended since I have at least dozen people I’d call friends who I can go 6 months without seeing and pick up a conversation as if we had only seen each other yesterday.

Since I left school the number of new friends I have made in my life are limited to work colleagues, who to be honest my only interaction outside of work are Xmas parties once a year. My Star Wars collecting friends are to me friends in the truest sense.

And that is thanks to FF.

In early December 2014 my wife left me for the bloke she was having an affair with for 12 months and took my son 100 miles away to live with him. Mentally you can only imagine the state I was in. Attending the Christmas FF that year was the first time I could put if out of mind and was a glimmer of light in a very dark part of my life.

It would be crying shame if FF ended, it means a lot to me and so many others. I love the drive from London to Fordingbridge be it on a bright summers day in August or in deepest winter in December. I love the ship and the crown, I love the curry house and that town hall.

In the last 5 years I bought around a 100 MOC’s, at least 20of them at have been at FF plus many other items. Heading home from FF with a boot load of vintage and great memories gives me the warm and fuzzies.

I have my son now every other weekend, so it’s automatically 50/50 on whether I can I attend. The more notice you can give on dates the more chance there is of me organising so I can attend.

I still always struggle to make the Spring FF, I think I’ve only manage 1 or 2 of them due to family commitments. This years was no different. Even though I went to celebration I would have still come to FF had my girlfriend not booked us a weekend away for my 40th.

In closing You've got to do what you’ve got to do. But if you want some feedback (because it’s a gift, right?) go to 2 a year; a summer and winter event. Keep it on a Sunday. And try to give us some notice, a least a couple of months or more if possible. I’d love to see the panels in the afternoon again as well.
i see your schwartz is as big as mine

Has there been any further news? I’m seriously ready for a trip to the new forest to look at lovely old vintage.

Thank you to those of you that chimed in, it was humbling to see, read and understand what the event means to some of you.

Thank you, it means a lot.

Richard has asked me to get in touch to with respect to the summer show as folk need to get plans in place etc.
As it stands for some of the reasons and factors outlined, there will be no summer event this year.
However, for those that are around, I am one of the team running "The Star Wars Zone" at London Film & Comic Con later this month 26th-28th of July, so would be great to see as many of you there as possible :)
With respect to the future of Farthest From and any further dates, we'll have to wait and see :)

All the best,
Dave.

Respect the desicion Dave, you might find a break will recharge the batteries and get everyone fired up for the next one - too long without an FF is bad for you.

As always, just let me know if you need any help with anything.

Like the vast, vast majority who deeply appreciate the effort you put into FF and enjoy the event itself (and the many other ventures you work on) it's sad news to hear there won't be an FF this summer. But, absence makes the heart grow fonder. So take a break and please know that those who have been giving you gripe over the event are vocal minority. Think of them as the Mary Whitehouses of the Star Wars community. Your efforts are far more appreciated than not. Will look forward to hopefully bumping into you at London Comic Con.
