Just a heads up to everyone attending FF this coming Saturday. I will be filming proceedings for a forthcoming documentary about the Star Wars phenomenon in the UK, what it meant to people as small AND big kids, how we relived the movies through our toy collections before the days of video and DVD, and about how it influenced how we are as adults now.
This is NOT going to be "Plastic Galaxy: The UK edition". Whilst we may touch on the story of Palitoy, this is not going to be an hour and a half of people showing off their prized items in their vintage collection. It's a film about the people and the effect these films and toys had on them.
I'll be there most, if not all of the day. Please feel free to come and have a chat on and off camera as all input is appreciated. If you'd prefer not to be included or seen, please let me know and I will avoid pointing the camera in your direction. There will be notices on entry informing you of this.
I look forward to seeing those I know and meeting those I don't, and I hope we all have a great time.
Thanks to Mr. Tree for allowing me to do this.
See you on Saturday.
Simon

I really enjoyed this one and had a great day, and to be honest I think the new venue is better in terms of space and facilities.

Yes, the muber of visitors were down and there wasn't as many dealers BUT it was like a return to older FF's where the middle floor was empty and loads of space to move around. I got chance to have a decent conversation with so many people yesterday and the atmosphere was great.

I really hope Dave keeps FF going and this isn't the last one.

Is there any reason to think this might have been the last one?

This weekend was always going to be low on numbers, coming so soon after Echo Live and Celebration. But FF is the best vintage-only show in the UK, I'm sure that the next one will be busier. The event would be sorely missed if it was to fold.

Dave told me it was.

I think it's all best coming directly from Dave what his intentions are regarding the future of the show, but I explained to him that FF is one of those 'must do' events during the year - at least once anyway, and I think it'll be sorely missed by many of us if he did end the event.

Perhaps he needs a break from it for a while. It takes a lot of effort to put these events on I'm sure.

I know several 'active' collectors who have decided to take a break from SW as a whole.

He did give details of the next event when I was chatting to him afterwards.

It was caveated with a big IF I do another one.

It would be a tragedy to see this event fold. Hopefully 21 will happen in the summer as planned.

I've missed the last couple as they've clashed with work / pre booked events. Would be gutted to see FF end. Hope Dave announces a summer date, I'll try my very best to be there!!!

I had another smashing weekend in fordingbridge so thank you Dave for organising another great show.
I think the smaller turnout was mostly down to it bring on a Saturday but being so close to echo probably had a small part to play. I quite liked the old school feel to it!
It would be a huge blow to the community if there wasn't any more though, for me and many other collectors these shows are as much about socialising and building friendships as they are buying and selling.

Had a great weekend. Footfall and dealer tables were down, but on the back of 2 other shows in the last month or so, a change of day/venue and relatively short notice for the show, I think it did as well as can be expected. The new venue is great, better and more possibilities than than the town hall. And the cinema day on the Sunday was fun too. Would be a big loss if this show stopped.

So come on Dave, lets have Farthest Fest, a summer festival for beer, meat and vintage toys! :p

cheers Jason
