Seeing Episodes 7-9 All For The First Time Tonight
Seeing Episodes 7-9 All For The First Time Tonight
I'm off to see episodes 7-9 all for the first time at the cinema tonight. No spoilers please.
I watched episodes 1-3, Solo, Rogue One, 4-6 (despecialised edition) over the past month in preparation.
I'm trying to keep my expectations low.
Does anyone know how cinemas usually organise their triple bill showings? I'm presuming there will be breaks in between films with some time to get something to eat etc...
I thought I might post my initial reactions to each episode here if anyone is interested.

Post away, however please be mindful that spoilers anywhere other than the dedicated thread (viewtopic.php?f=28&t=40110) will not be well received
There will likely be a 20 - 30 minute break between each film. Hope you enjoy your night!

Thanks for heads up about the spoilers.
20-30min should be enough time to get some quick grub in between films, thanks!

An Oasis bottle is always a good piss flask, it's the wide neck that gives it the edge over normal bottle.
Maybe a Lenor bottle for a marathon like this.

Ok got my piss flask ready, had a huge portion of hot chicken wings before I came out...let the games begin.
The Gentlemen looks good. I hope my girlfriend doesn't make me go and see Cats with her.

Episode 7
I enjoyed that! Great costumes, like the overall characters and plot. The way they've kept the original cast and introducing the new characters. It does feel like a Star Wars film more than Solo and Rogue One did, except maybe the very end of Rogue One which was great.
However I do have some gripes. Some of the dialogue is pretty naff, maybe they were just trying to appeal to a younger crowd or something. Some of the jokes didn't really land for me.
The main thing that annoyed me is how they're moving more and more to the powers of the force being something you naturally have a gift for and taking emphasis off training. I think she was massively over powered at the end, it just wasn't believable. They should have at least made her fight in a much more creative and unorthodox way. She's supposed to be untrained! That's the only way she might have got the upper hand.
Overall I really enjoyed it thought, I tried to keep my expectations low, it was a bit better than I thought it would be.
15min intermission and they're playing Bewitched. Time to get outta here for a snack

Episode 8 -
Not happy with the plot and what they did with Luke's character on this one. Too much wishy washy inspirational quotes type stuff in the dialogue that doesn't really hold together. Pretty cheap trick that Luke pulled at the end which doesn't make much sense to me either.
I hope the next one is better.

Episode 9
It was ok. Overall fairly predictable and I started to lose interest in the characters towards the end. Starts off pretty good but I was hoping for an interesting twist at the end that didn't happen. There's too many times where people die and come back to life again that it starts to become a bit meaningless and at the end is literally pointless. The final confrontation was a bit underwhelming. Effects and the look are great though. There are some cool moments.
To be honest I'd rather watch episode 3 than watch this again. I think overall the thing I miss is the way Lucas would touch on basic philosophy and religion a bit, I loved the whole emphasis on fear leads to anger leads to hate leads to suffering stuff. There's much less of that in these films and it makes them less memorable to me. It's turning more into people with inherited powers fighting with each other to see who has the strongest power, not the battle of the different approaches of the Jedi and the dark side which I find much more interesting.
Anyway, I'm done, thanks for letting me rant to myself. Hope anyone else who sees episode 9 enjoys it, who cares what I think, have fun.

Having seen the new films can honesty say will never watch 7,8,9 ever again they are none canon in my book all terrible and an insult to the original cast and characters IMHO.

If people enjoy the sequel films, then good luck to them. I don't, and personally regard the Expanded Universe as canon instead, beginning (albeit not chronologically
) with 'Heir to the Empire'. So if, like me, you dislike the sequels and wish Disney hadn't bothered making them, then you have about 80 novels of material to read and enjoy instead... and that's just the books set after 'Return of the Jedi'. There's dozens more set before it
