Re: Star Wars Toy of the Week, Week 45, 2018, Part 2/2
The '"Battle Damaged" X-Wing Fighter' this week, Lars? Another good choice!
Not content with simply reissuing the original Star Wars X-Wing Fighter in Empire packaging, which Kenner initially did, they quickly realised they could sell kids exactly the same toy all over again by including some crappy 'battle damage' stickers which made the toy look worse! Genius!
OK, I know the 'battle damage' stickers have their supporters, so I'll take my tongue out of my cheek and content myself by saying that I personally never liked them. You didn't see battle damage like that in the film, and once applied, you couldn't easily remove the stickers without damaging the main stickers!
Regardless of that, here are my opened Palitoy ESB version, some Palitoy ROJ instructions, since I don't have any Palitoy ESB ones, plus my sealed Kenner ESB version. The X-wing itself went through a few changes over the years, but the most obvious difference to be found is that the Kenner version had electronic sounds and a baffling red LED light at the tip of its nose, both operated via a blue button on top of the ship, whilst the Palitoy version ditched the sounds and light and resculpted the rear of the ship, replacing it with a sticker.

Some good examples already on this one and good write up Jeremy
I have this Palitoy grey one. I know there is some debate over what box this was issued in but fairly happy it came in the ESB and ROTJ boxes. I also need some ESB instructions

I deliberately wimped out in my write up and didn't mention the grey coloured Palitoy one as I wasn't 100% sure which box(es) it came in, so thanks for answering that for me!

Here’s the only one I have. Might seem a little familiar though.

I think the white is more common in the ESB box but either seem to be correct

Ok that must be the very damaged variant with 4 guns blown away and the glass has also been destroyedapack7229 wrote:Here’s the only one I have. Might seem a little familiar though.

Still a nice x-wing mate, have you been thinking about fixing it with guns and glass ?
