Fake AFA?

Post by Vernon »

I was watching this..

Does this look like a fake AFA grade?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/133715104343

I’ve checked the database and the number matches..just never seen any graded with a label at the top of the case and the font used looks off as well.

Looks me like one of their early grading labels. They use to slap on an overall grade, without the subs on their labels. Although, I have seen fake AFA items out there.

Agreed it’s an early label before they did sub grades.

Yup, exactly that. Seen a few of them when I started collecting 15yrs ago.

Sorry - I think the point I was making has been missed.
I have some AFA MOC’s from before they added the sub grades but the font used on this label is different and none of mine have the AFA label on the top left hand side as this one does.
Maybe this type of grading was their earliest style but I don’t remember seeing one like this in 20 years of collecting.

The sticker at the top has just been stuck on the outside of the case for reference, the print looks correct for the older label, it’s in the correct place and the foil sticker is on the side of the case. All good IMO.

I’ve checked the serial number and it was graded 3 May 2001.
