Dengar's first appearance in Empire Strikes Back Monthly Mar/Apr 1981

Nice find, Spoons :) I haven't started on the SW titled comics yet and I've not come across that ad in any earlier comic than May so far, so that would certainly appear to be his first appearance to date. That same ad appears in:

Marvel Action #8 (20/05/1981)
Marvel Super Adventure #3 (27/05/1981) and #14 (05/08/1981)
Spider-Man & Hulk #427 (13/05/1981) and the 1981 Summer Special

That's interesting Si - I've been scanning all the SWW and ESBM SW ads as I read them. So here's a few more with dates

26th April 1978

18th April 1979

1st August 1979

15th August 1979

26th September 1979

Fett was 9th April 1980

First seen 21st May 1980 (in colour the week after)

Does anyone else remember seeing adverts for the Kenner Micro collection, specifically the Bespin set?

I've searched all my old ESB comics but can't find them anywhere!?

Not in the UK. The micro stuff was only released in Australia (and NZ?) and the US

There are some really terrific ads in this thread. Many thanks to all the posters, but especially spoons for the latest flood of gold :)

That's strange, I definitely remember seeing an advert in a UK bought comic. Do you know if they were planned for release here then withdrawn at the last minute?

I may have a trawl through the comics I was reading at the time. I was certainly aware of the micro collection from somewhere.

No problem at all. I love these things and will post more as I read my way through the old comics

Mark - could you have seen them in a UK version of a US comic? The US SWW was sold here and others must have been sold too

Spoons- it could have been US but I don't remember buying any- it was defiantly mine not a mates.

Looking at the release date my local newsagents didn't even stock the UK SW monthly by that point, so I never owned them, let alone US versions.

It seems more likely I got hold of a US DC comic or something but I seem to remember the ad being larger like the UK comics. Bit of a mystery.

^^This goes nowhere to explain the size of the advert you remember as this is on the other end of the scale - but Micro did appear in the boxed-in mini catalogues that appeared in latter ESB era Kenner toys. That's where I used to covet them.

I might just be misremembering and it was in a catalogue. I'll look through some comics from around the time anyway- might find some more ads and it's just a good excuse to read them again :)

Not a lot in the line of Star Wars ads again, but couldn't not show this one off, with the one Star Wars ad it does have. Picked it up at my local comic book store today!

A few days ago a guy came in with over 200 comics from the 70's that he wanted to get rid of. I've been going through them for the past few days and found a few of these.

I was having a holiday read of some of my old comics and came across this little gem from 1979 that I don't think has been seen on here yet, happy new year to all the forum members and keep posting any new vintage sw or cool related adverts :)

Brilliant memories. I found this advert in a Batman comic in the U.K as a child and it was the source of many toy fantasies. I didn't realise at that time that the Palitoy play sets were different to the Kenner ones, so if I'd received one from my parents, I'd have been pretty disappointed.
