Here's another one I forgot about, anyone remember what the laser shots looked like when Snoke's giant ship was firing at the rebel fleet during 'the chase'?.. the shots all full on dipped over the distance like as if there was gravity pulling them down like hit golf balls, that actually kinda bugged me.

Also I don't agree with the "these films are made for kids so us old farts don't matter". It's a 12a so kids can't see it anyway and there are also plenty of great films for adults with a 12 (or lower) rating.

All kids can go and see it, they just have to be accompanied by an adult if they are under 12. Which is the perfect scenario for Disney. Kids don't really go to the cinema on their own until they are about 11 or 12 anyway. It's why Frozen did so well at the box office, all those young kids it was aimed at aren't going to go on their own are they?

I thought a 12 rating meant you couldn't see it unless you were that age or have I missed something?

No I once thought that as well, a 12A means any child under 12 has to be accompanied by an adult.

Ah thanks for the info, I always thought that's what PG was for and the 12 rating came in after films like gremlins and temple of doom scared the **** out of youngsters.

Yeah I think they have changed it, I always thought it was funny how the original trilogy is U rated and you see Luke's Aunt and Uncle burnt to a scinder! Not to mention mass murder and arms getting lopped off. It's interesting my daughter is 7 and she gets scared watching Paddington Bair but Star Wars she is ok with. I think it's a lot to do with the context.

I'm going for a 4 at the moment, if Luke wanted to live like a hermit and be left alone in peace why was there such a build up to find him in TFA? Why did he instruct R2 to reveal his location if he never wanted to be found again as he said:?

I have a theory about that, I think he really did want to be found, but just said what he said and acted the way he did just to test Rey's patience, kind of how Yoda did with Luke goofing around with him to test him before he found out he was Yoda.

That's a good point you could be right maybe it was a test?

Needed a week to digest this film, so didn't comment earlier. Saw it last Sunday and HATED it! Pretty much agreed with every criticism on line. However once I'd calmed down, I decided to give it another go. Went alone on Wednesday, mid afternoon and saw it in a half full cinema. Have to say second time round it was amazing. As said many times online also: If you hated it- see it again! I can't think of another film I've ever seen which has had such a profound effect. I hated the humour first time round but on second viewing didn't mind it, actually laughed. Have awarded it 8 out of ten, 2 points docked for the flying Leia scene. Very brave to mess with the formula, but for me it has paid off. TFA was pretty good but lacked any real surprises, TLJ had me guessing right 'til the end and I can't wait to see episode 9.

Had a few days for my thoughts to come together...
Don't love it, but don't hate it. :p :(
The comedy lines didn't sit right.... but it's also a kids film :?
The flying though space, well...
The whole casino planet, not needed, just a way to sell toys/show what you can do with CGI :?
The killing of the imperial ship with the cruiser, why not use one that had already run out of go go juice just before it did :?
The Pongs and Chewbacca scenes ...
Even some of the dialogue felt it came from previous films :?
I don't know, so many questions.
TFA was dull and perdictable, R1 was great, these were my thoights from the first viewings, and I haven't changed my mind.
As many have already said, another viewing may help, but not sure that I will be changing my mind on this one, adverage at best.

Interesting to see the scores rolling in...
50% of the votes cast rate it a seven or higher
The highest number of votes falls the seven spot too

Yeah, surprised at the voting. Especially the extreme scores 0-1 and 9-10. I'm not a fan of it, but it's not THAT bad and I can't see how anyone can say it's THAT good either, given the plot issues and Mary Poppins, surely it starts at an 8 and you work down from there depending what else bugged you?

I think it extremely positive on a forum that hates Star Wars.

Unless it's plastic.

And an action figure.

From 30 years ago.

With a slightly different shade of brown boots.

I can't seem to find it but was there a vote on here for R1 and TFA? I have started reading the old threads regarding TFA and R1. So far they are all reading mostly very positive after everyone had their first viewing when they were released.
So from what I've read so far it's showing the TLJ definitely has a more divided opinion.

TFA is just ANH rehashed. Plot is very similar. A safe bet after the monstrosities a were the prequels, getting things back on track. Rogue one people liked because it was quite dark, everyone dies, similar to ESB.

I really wasn't planning to but I went back for a second viewing today kinda just for something to do.

Seeing it a second time on the one hand wasn't quite as bad as the first but on the other hand just re-affirmed how dreadful a film it is. The old characters are handled terribly and so much of it is just re-hashes from earlier films.

It was a full house with mostly adults and children and I have to be honest the "jokes" just went past in silence. Even the Porgs.

It also really saddens me to see such obvious politics appear with the Casino, Rose and DJ story lines(It's all a machine, partner. Live free, don't join." ). And I can't disagree with the observation that it's full of Feminism and SJW.

For me the bottom line is Disney/Rian Johnson could have and should have produced a far better, richer film but it seems that wasn't their intention....

I understand that the story had to more forward but I don't think it could have been done in a worse way......

I'm heartbroken.

Some scenes were mind-blowing and it had the potential to be a phenominal film but overall it just fell apart.

Dreadful script, very disjointed and so many scenes just left me cringing.

I can't even bring myself to go back and watch it again.

This really sums it up for me.I understand we have to move on from the classic originals but it's the crappy way everyone is being "written out" and all these powers we've never seen before turning up that's riled me.Mary poppins scene, hologram non fights and everything from ep7 basically ignored!! The way i feel now i don't care if it all ended, cheers Dave.

I gave it a five because there is a ok'ish film in there somewhere.

Sorry, but I've had to reduce my score from a frankly generous 2 to just 1. The more I think about this dreadful insult of a film, the more I hate it :-(

There's so much wrong with it, it's hard to know where to start when it comes to listing its faults :-( :( :(
