ive always been really interested in anything starwars related to the uk "JOHN MENZIES" shop
mostly as it was one of my fave haunts for stuff circa 82-85 :p
ive seen some tiny little pics of promo posters / store box offer stickers etc etc before but cant find them now , and saddeningly the one time i had a chance to win / own a john menzies figures promo poster on ebay around 2011 i forgot about it made worse by the fact its sold for about a tenner
i would love to see if anyone has anything menzies related for sale or just to njoi seeing 8)

Hi about 30 of my Carded figures came from John Menzies when they sold off all their old stock circa 1989 . That's where I got my tri logo Luke Bespin and Death Star Droid. I got birthday money and went through the bin looking for figures. When I got home I put them on my shelf. Then boxed them up in the attic.

I had the 1983 JM promo poster but don't know what happened to it.

Hi, I don't own my childhood collection unfortunately but when I was a kid JM was THE best place for me to pick up SW toys. I remember my Mum taking me in one day to meet Darth Vader. He was standing down stairs in the shop with a Stromtrooper on each side of him. I was 8 so I was frightened out of my mind. Vader put his hand out to shake my hand and I always remember putting out the wrong hand for the hand shake. I got Vaders autograph that day (most likely a fake) because I doubt that it was Dave Prowse going round all the toy stores back in the 80's but that Darth Vader autograph was stuck in my wall next to a Vader poster for the best part of the entire 1980's lol. The good old 80's and John Menzies. 8)

yeah i can actually remember seeing these cheap figures in my local jm around 88-89 even possibly as late as early 1990 too , sadly by then i had zero interest in anything other than enjoying being part of the acid house rave generation . last thing on my mind was toys so bought nothing!
i have many memories of instore menzies big offer stickers for bogof etc stuck on trilogo boxes ,have yet to have found a single picture of these anywhere
the one i remember most was big red and blue stripey circle with menzies toy sale written on it the price being £3,89 and this was on a trilogo b-wing , i remember loads of xwing and scout walker and jabba set being 2.99 -399 each also some were sellophaned together as a 2 for one deal with a big white sticker with jedi toys printed on it

yeah i clearly remember the huge wire baskets of starwars figures in woolies inc the loose baggies sets with 4 - 8 loose figs in for i think 99p , again even as late as 89 i remember literally hundreds of trilogo cards all chucked in these big wire baskets at 79p each ,an abandunce of emperors and anakins moc in particular in the end it was buy 3 maybe even 4 moc for 99p just to get rid before being binned or given away

allthough i had and he also had memories of such stickers being stuck on other boxed items some of which you were just given a carded figure along with it ,he told me that sometimes they would break seals and slide a carded figure in a box and reseal .which i think may explain why palitoy may have sent the stickers seperate to give each menzies store the choice of wether it was required that a freebie was needed to help sales along or not

Menzies ran some nifty competitions too, I've got a picture of a couple of their competition flyers on my old PC. They might be floating about on the net actually so if I can find them I will post them up later.

The poster can be found on ebay but they can be pricey at times. Seen them sell for £40-50!

yeah i think if you google it there a couple of really small photos of those flyers .
and yeah they posters with menzies at the bottom with the proto speeder on it tend to sell between 30-60 dependant on luck and as with anything condition. they rarely come up on ebay tho sadly
i will get one eventually  i hope

I won third prize in a John Menzies competition in Perth. Won a landspeeder. Was the 1983 reissue and was really pleased!

My boxed ESB Falcon has a 26.99 JM sticker on it .
