My loose collection i put together when i was young included plenty of doubles, i had over 130 loose figures and although i knew nothing of variants back then i knew to keep hold of certain figures just because there seemed something different about them.

my loose collection is long gone but i can remember for certain having this list of different looking figures....

pale boba fett
fluffy skirt klaatu
han hoth with thicker painted darker legs
2 different moulded faced stormtrooper (one of those limbs felt much more flexible)
darth vader with a different moulded head/face

im no variant expert but just out of interest what is the rarity of this bunch?

and what variants do you remember having at the time?

Grey ewok, stripey ewok and little brown ewok, that was about the extent of my variant knowledge as a 7 year old.

This is pretty accurate, although my IG-88 had a bowcaster despite me never owning Chewbacca

My brother owned small head Han and he was a much loved figure. I finally got a Han, a big head one but it rarely got played with as for some reason it looked stupid. So I played with the small head Han.

I can't quite remember how, but I was aware of the jawa with the plastic cape, probably from tv or comics. But I was far happier with the cloth one as it looked real. The plastic cape on Ben and tusken looked silly. But suited Leia bespin and original.

I rememeber I had AT-AT drivers with brown and one with orange emblem on the back.

Stormtroopers I had china and no coo.

I also remember my farmer luke from a tri-logo card was sold with a bespin saber so it was first in 2001 when I began to collect again that I learned there was a yellow saber there looked like the vader and ben saber

But I only had one of each of most of my figures. So I could not compare most of them.

Was never aware of such a thing as a child, and even when I started collecting again in 1989 I was never aware of 'variants' as we are today BUT when I amassed a sizeable collection of loose figures back then I did notice different things about the same figure - such as the SDC having different emblems, or none at all, some figures having different coloured faces etc...

It wasn't until I got back into it 3 years ago I even knew about variants - or repros - or the different classes of MOCS (tri-logo etc...)

The only two figures I had growing up that turned out to be variants was the VCJ and large head Han. Both of these were on Palitoy 12 backs (well I'm pretty sure the VCJ was Palitoy, especially after the recent discoveries). I didn't even know the pin head Han existed until about the last 15 years ago.

If I knew then what I know now about variants lol...

Much like Walkie, I remember figures, not variants, but I vaguely remember really liking 8d8

I swear that I was the only kid in school that received a rocket firing Boba Fett  Of course I didn't show anyone it.
I didn't really noticing any standout variants that I can remember except for I had the blonde hair Luke farm boy and my friend had brown hair farm boy.

Wow...some of you guys must've been loaded as kids...

All joking aside, I actually never had any doubles as a child. I guess it was down to the fact that I got into Star Wars at the ROTJ stage...

Don't think I even had a Luke Farmboy Figure
Made up for that though later!

My most vivid memories of figures as a child are Chewbacca, lando skiff, Rebel Commando and Luke jedi. ..i still have old 8mm footage of me receiving Chewie on Christmas morning. Also got Removable limbs C3PO if I'm not mistaken

Edit: It appears that I got Chief Chirpa as well! Christmas 1984 :)
