I am sure I am being thick, but tonight when looking at a figure I got from Andy on a 77 Back ROTJ card. I noticed the Lando Skiff Guard figure pictured on the reverse has completely white legs ( figure 24 on photo )

In all these years I have NEVER noticed this. I knew about the Bib Red Cape, but just never saw the error on Lando.

It appears to be on all 77 Cardbacks but on no others before or after....amazing that after all these years you can still find something new !

Do you mean the size of the cape or the colour ? The cape looks very big, but the colour looks ok ?

The Lando Skiff with unpainted legs should probably be considered a pre-production piece like the red caped Bib and Black caped/gold belt Squid head and not really an error. It may well have been a first shot as there are various different examples of Lando Skiff first shots out there which weren't painted.

Many (but not all) of the figures used for photography purposes were of a pre-production nature which is the reason why you see such interesting figures in Kenner's product photography. The images of the figures on the backs of the cards are where most show up but there are also pre-production figures/vehicles etc on boxed stuff and playsets.

For more of the same, take a closer look at the ESB exotica shown on the back of the Palitoy 30 Backs. I always wished Han Hoth and the Rebel Soldier came with those decos, and I'm loving the extra black on Bossk and IG-88, and the white collar and black boots on the Bespin Security Guard. You can find extra paints apps on all the figures here, but if I had to choose just one cheap one I think Kenner should have stuck with it's Luke's silver belt buckle. I think it adds so much for so little paint! :)

Talking of 77 Back Errors, I have a 77 Back Vader that has the backing of the card inverted/upside down. I like to think its an Aussie version from Down Under :)

Cool thread, if you think about this it makes sense that they used pre production photos for some figures. As the designes for the cards would need to be finished and the cards made before the figures whent into mass production, otherwise the factory would have nothing to package them to.

I could be completely wrong and the factories had thousands of figures in giant tubs waiting for their cards to be ready.

The Pali 30 back is all pre prod I believe.

When you think about it, it's one of the funkiest backs out there. Kenner never did a 30 back so it's unique in that respect, it's got photos of U produced versions of the figures and you can get up to the first 41 I believe in it, although I know several combinations that should exist don't, without checking Jason's list I couldn't tell you what they were.

I have a lobot on a 30 back. Try and find a picture of old slaphead on the back.

To the Pali guys, would my lobot be a palitoy debit card?

I think Lee's point is that Lando debuted on the 65 back and that cardback has the correct production figure, so it's odd to see a prototype on a later card. Can't think of any other examples.
