I have dug this out of the loft, this was my childhood toy and I would love to restore it, any help would be appreciated or would it be easier just buy a complete one?

A complete one would be easier for sure.

I have noticed that people are selling repro parts for it, so that's always something to watch out for

If it is from your childhood then I would have restored it. I have a broken y-wing from my childhood. I replaced the broken and missing parts from another y-wing. But it is always more easy to buy a complete one.

Honestly, I am considering just getting repro backing and doors until or if I can find anything genuine. As this was a childhood toy, it will never be sold on.

Maybe one day I will buy an original complete, but its not a priority.

Maybe some members have some spare parts that they can help you with so you can complete the set. But sometimes it can be cheaper to buy a complete one.
