I'm sure we all have very fond memories of a lot of cartoons, but from my experience some are best left as that, memories. They often had very cringe-worthy story lines with strong 'moral' ideals, which was obviously fine for a 7 year old but a bit patronising to watch as an adult. I watched an episode of MASK last week and although I enjoyed it nostalgically, the story line was weak.

So what cartoons can you still watch and enjoy? Find funny? Scooby Doo is an obvious one, lots of jokes aimed at adults that kids wouldn't have understood.

Out of all the cool stuff back then nothing is really watchable, except for the nostalgia factor.
If anything, Inspector Gadget and the Gummi Bears still holds up somewhat.

Got the full box set of danger mouse and it still makes me laugh and my kids love watching it too, caters for us both :)

I've got my kids lots of the old classic cartoons which they generally love but some were more disappointing for me than others. Most were a let down as expected but did enjoy watching ulyses with my son. Mind you compared to the crap that's on nowadays I'd rather they watch the old classics :)

I got a Dogtanian DVD a few years ago and watched some of the episodes - probably not as good as I remembered but loved the into music

Not sure what they would be like these days, but was addicted to Ulysses, Citys of Gold and Around the World in 80 Days when I was younger

Just seen these - there are at least 6 of them - it's a proper trip back through childhood

I bought the He-Man boxed set a few years ago. Only watched 3 mins of one episode though. I never realised He-Man was gay!
And i don't mean a bit camp, i mean a full on raging, rainbow flag waving, homosexual.

Dungeons and Dragons us still awesome. Would like to check out Battle of the Planets, Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors and Galaxy High again

Used to love the hanna barbera stuff especially jabba jaw, grape ape and the laffolympics. Also, dungeons n dragons, he man and battle of the planets where faves of mine. Can just see the phoenix now as zoltar closes in for the kill and Tiny is laid back with his feet up munching a burger

Ullysses 31 was and still is good. I have thought about getting the Terrahawks DVD's as an adult but I wondered if I'd just be wasting my time.

I still enjoy watching the original Mr men cartoons and the pink panther.
All courtesy of youtube.

Ulysses 31 was always one that went against that standard in the 80s. This was certainly my memory of it looking back. But ones memory can be unreliable with these kind of things. But i got hold of a couple of episodes recently to check if it really was as dark and gloomy as i remember and it didn't disappoint. Watching it i can't actually believe they made it for children. Really dark in concept and delivery. Mixing ancient greek mythology with "modern" sci-fi.

Anyone who didn't see it at the time or doesn't remember- Ulysses was a guy who did something to anger the gods and so was banished to the far reaches of space forced to travel through unknown galaxies in a ship with his crew in stasis creepily, floating in mid-air in a compartment of the ship.

Was awesome then and it's even better now.

With you there Grant - my whole family love the Ulysses box set

A bit late, but the 90s animated spiderman is still very good and a bit early but the 60s hulk is fantastic. Great theme tune and three minutes of basic animation and fantastic stories.

So many great shouts.

Ullysses 31 was great, I remember rushing home to watch that, it was like no cartoon or show I had ever seen.

just watched all the MASK cartoons and maybe not quite as I remember, as said weaker stories than I recall but as a kid they were the business.

transformers obviously was great and even now I enjoy watching the old shows, the new stuff of the last few years sucks arse juice big time, I actually feel sorry for kids who have to watch it and don't know better.

Mysterious city's of gold became a huge school thing (I was at boarding school at the time) and the entire school used to cram into the common room to watch that.

I must say though I was a house of mouse fan: Ducktales rocks (and still does), chip and dale rescue ranges and Tail Spin, Gummy Bears where great and I have all but gummy bears on DVD :) - ha, now I own gummy bears on DVD impulse control anyone.

Some classics already been mentioned...

Ulysesse - never saw the end, no spoilers please I might get this on DVD
Cities of gold
Dogtanian
Transformers
Battle of the Planets
Thundercats
DangerMouse

all classics and most of them had great theme tunes, that seem to be missing these day's. Lenghty theme tunes seem to dropped in favour of air time or ad time (spongebob has a good theme tune though  )

I don't think Defenders of the Earth has been mentioned yet, another rip-roaring theme tune. Watched an episode recently and it is ridiculous, a characters powers are used in some situations but seemingly forgotten in the next scene so someone else has to come to the rescue

Can't beat them for nostalgia though.
