Hello There,

I joined yesterday and thought I should do one of these introduction posts. Wasn't that interested in Star Wars until my brother challenged me to watch all 11 movies + plus the Clone Wars in a month. Happy to say I won that bet (Plus the first season of rebels and the few Mandalorian episodes that were out at the time) and have been a dedicated fan for the last 5 years!

I've been collecting figures for maybe 2 years now but only in a very unsophisticated 'damn that guy looks cool, I'll buy that' kind of way. I'd like to learn a bit more about collecting properly, knowing what I'm buying and maybe finding some stuff to put on a hunt list. Glad to see there's lots of experienced collectors on here!

I'm a big comic fanatic, but for some reason haven't read much on the Star Wars front. I don't really know where to start, especially with some of the older stuff, so if anyone can recommend a good place to ask for recs, I'd really appreciate it!

I'm rambling a bit, but I'm happy to be here! I'll finish off with this: I got into a conversation recently about whether Star Wars is science-fiction or science-fantasy??? I'd love to hear people's thoughts!

Star Wars isn't really science fiction or fantasy imo. It's an adventure, that happens to be in space and on other planets. The science part is almost irrelevant. It's a good story, with great characters, that's intended to be a lot of fun. There is/was probably/possibly a more serious undertone to the OT around racism and the Vietnam war. Whatever it's classified as you enjoy what you enjoy, there are a ton of great figures, ships and playsets to choose from, vintage and modern. Welcome

That makes sense, the person I was talking to basically said the same thing. I've always enjoyed how some classic fantasy tropes are mixed in, like Knights and Princesses and the Old Wise Wizard and (pushing it a bit) you could see OT Vader as that kind of Black Knight villain. But I think the real appeal does come from that action-adventure side to it and how Lucas created such a unique universe. (thanks! happy to be here!)
