Artoo in last 3 Sequels

As a hero of the battle of Yavin . Artoo was criminally underused in the Sequel trilogy

R2 D2 was replaced by Rollerball Rocco BB8! Which was ok by me, you could say that until The Rise of Skywalker C-3PO got the same treatment, I think that sometimes even hero's can be too much of a good thing and that new characters have to be allowed more air time

They were always going to push their new droid in the script before the OGs, but, to be fair, BB8 was one of the more acceptable new characters of the sequels for me and BB8's traits definitely paid homage to R2's feisty tendencies..... loved it when BB8 gave Finn the finger

BB8 was awesome- liked DO as well, although he was underused.

R2 is the narrator of the Skywalker Saga. His absence makes no sense
