Wondering what everyone does regarding insuring their collection/s. I have vintage Star Wars toys but also have Palisades Muppets and newer collections from Disney but put together their value is quite frightening. It's got me thinking about insurance - what would you list it as? (single items or a collection).

I recently popped along to the Toy & Train Fair at the NEC and the prices of things for sale that day shocked me - when did they become rediculously expensive and when did the 'bundling' of graded start? The sad thing is, the prices on that day have told me that my buying of vintage Star Wars toys looks like it's at an end as there's no way I can afford those prices so I need to protect the items I already have.

Mine are covered by the house insurance, so long as no items are individually worth over £4k (from memory). They are classed as individual items, not a collection.

Have you got each item photographed as evidence just in case? If I had to do that I think I'd need to take a month of work to do it 🤦🏼‍♂️😂

I recently started covering mine with a company called Assetsure:

I have always previously just had the collections covered with my house insurance, but decided to finally separate the two as contents insurance does eventually have a ceiling for high risk/non domestic items, which I had reached (mainly because some video games I paid peanuts for a decade ago have shot up in value over the last few years.)

Assetsure wanted to see evidence of recepits, which thankfully I have kept over the years - they didn't expect me to be able to account for absolutely everything, but just enough to prove beyond reasoable doubt I own these items. I would also highly recommend photographing your collection.

I obviously don't want to disclose the exact details in public, but if you want any more info feel free to PM me.

Ohh just had a look at AssetSure, thanks Edd. Perfectly affordable. Although, having been collecting on and off since approx '93, I have no receipts for any of my collection bar a few recent ebay purchases.. do you know if they have any alternative methods of proving ownership? e.g. a photo of you holding each item with todays paper or something? :)

I'm sure they must be able to, you'll probably have to call them anyway as they couldn't process my quote online because the items didn't fall in a specific category like watches or art. But on the phone they were happy to help.

Maybe go 8 or 9 should the worst happen and you have to replace the lot

I got mine insured through a specialist brokers called Greenfield.

I did not have to provide any details/evidence/receipts or name anything over a specific value. They just asked for the value of my collection and that anything over a certain amount (I think it was £4k) was in a Vitrine. Luckily, they accepted acrylic cases to cover this, which is fortunate.

I have had zero issues working with this company. Even when making a claim on a damaged item it went through without a hitch. The brokers dealt with the insurers directly, so I had to do very little.
