Does anybody know if it is posible to make 3D prints of vintage weapons?
Are there any files to download 3D files?

I've been searching the web for a while but I just found Lego weapons...

Thanks a lot,

Chris

Hopefully not mate! I don't think I'm alone in thinking this. Its a problem as it is already that you can never totally guarantee that what you're buying comes with total legit 100% original accessories which is a shame. The time comes when 3d printing becomes big, its really going to make this hobby less enjoyable. For every person who wants repro for their own collection to look nice at a fraction of the cost, there will be ten times as many trying to sell repro on as legit. I use repro, when need be, but think that the time when 3d printing is going to be mainstream is the time I'm gonna stop buying vintage collectibles!

Hmmm - interesting first post on a vintage collection forum

"does anyone know how to make 3D printed repro's"

Sounds like someone has access to a 3D printer and wants to make some.

So far I haven't heard of any accessories being made this way. I'd like to hope it never happens, but you know eventually someone will do it I just hope that the plastic feel will never be an exact match, so we'll be able to tell the difference. If anything with the technology I'd hope the people who use them will at least mark them as it will be even easier to do so.

There's obviously a lot of interest right now though. About a month ago I went to a local Comic-Con and even there someone had set up a booth showing 3D printing and made up a bunch of Tie Fighters and things.

These will spell the end for for those even attempting to have true vintage weapons. I think you are going to do well on this forum. :D RS is a good place as they are convinced they are bootlegs.....try there.

I can't believe how tame everyone is being... Especially Todd!

Well said Grant!

Someone please ban him and delete his account so he has no access to the wealth if knowledge on here.

I'm not gonna say exactly what I want as it will fill the page with ####

What a Muppet... Now I am being tame but this will upset me more than him!

F##K OFF!

Besides the slightly trolley first post this does raise the question what material is used by the printer? I've only seen one of these things in action on Storage Hunters where they printed a wrench out of some sort of rigid material. Impressive. But is there only one type of material?

Edit: I have a stinking cold. :(

Man flu...you have my sympathy mate

In regard to 3D printing, technology will always have it's downsides, but upsides too.
Fully agree it has no place on here in respect of SW collecting, and agree not to be condoned on here at any level for repro stuff.

Read an article on the impact of 3D printing, there are positives as well.

I also read that there are medical advances as well, such as replicating oragan parts ( valves for hearts etc) bits that were previously extremely expensive to produce

Good read this, so as with all things we need to keep a perspective, but I agree with Todd...RS is a home for you to go to  Off You Pop mate....I will aptly put it as.....go forth (to RS) and multiply

Good read this snippet :D

I saw that and it was very expensive but even so if you can gain access to one or have one as part of your business then its easily done.

I think the material and cost will outweigh the profit but even so I have my view and will stand by it.

I am not feeling well either Grant but you were bang on!

No regrets!

....a very scary future for us vintage collectors ... :(

Saving grace would be that 3D printers work on a resin of some kind which will feel very different from the vintage plastic (I hope).

Not denying they are cool and are the future and if they can build car parts and replicate organs then that's amazing... Using them for vintage weapons... NO!!

This is similar to what they did on Storage Hunters.

Completely get where your coming from Bram and it's that sort of passion that keeps traditions, culture and ways of life going and prevents them from slipping away into the past, I applaud and support your conviction as I'm sure we all do :D
