Figure production errors

Hi. I'm just wondering what production errors do to a figure. MOC of course. Does anyone know if this makes the figure worthless or ultra-rare and valuable?? And does this apply equally to vintage and modern alike?

Totally depends mate - what do you have?

I would say that generally, it makes them more valuable. Certainly more interesting. I'm partial to a weapon error myself

More desirable.

Those collectors who have a focus will kill for a really good factory error. Paint errors, mis-packed weapons, figures upside down or back to front, print/packaging mistakes - all very sought after.

I'm not a big fan of 'short pours' though, they just look crap IMO.

Whatcha got?

I would say it makes them entirely worthless and you should send any you have to me for immediate disposal.

No expert, but I'd hazard a guess that factory mistakes on mass produced collectibles will usually make them more desirable to collectors, and therefore more valuable.

I would agree with what the other guys have said, production errors are almost always worth slighty more than a regular figure. The amount depends greatly on the type of error/character etc etc but oddities are always of interest to collectors.

Honestly, thanks all for your interest and chiming in. Quite an interesting subject I reckon.

The identified errors i'm referring to are on the latest TFA 3.75" figures.

1: First one, my Resistance Trooper has no purple paint decal on the white part of his BAW piece. The latest TFA 3.75" figures are made to be part of a 3-set, and referred to as BAW (Build A Weapon) along with two other characters, to be part of a 3-set. Now just in case anyone is not aware, each character in the new TFA (and in particular, the 3.75" BAW series, which is the main line of all the TFA figures) comes with it's own accessory/weapon piece, but if you collect all three figures in a 3-set, the weapon piece from each figure is designed to contribute with another two predetermined figures (in a 3-set) to construct a completely individual mega weapon, so to speak. But, each of these 3-sets is colour-coded so to speak, meaning that the decals on the BAW piece (that come with each figure), are all colour-coded the same on each BAW piece that comes with each figure in a 3-set.
Similar to a two-tone car or whatever, the colouring on the BAW pieces; each weapon piece (that comes with the figure in a 3-set) will have the same colour decals on the BAW piece as the other two belonging to a 3-set) for consistency, resulting in the final (Build A Weapon) being consistent in it's color-coding. In my case, I have a Resistance Trooper missing the purple decal on the bulky white part of his BAW piece. And on this particular figure it doesn't stop there; on all the latest TFA BAW figures, the letters "TM" are printed directly next to the name on the bottom-left of the card, and in this instance the letters "TM" are missing, on both the back and the front < and this has been officially named over at some other forum (which i'm not a member of) as a variant.

2: Again from the modern TFA series. A Guavian Enforcer figure, which has a paint anomaly. Around the side down by his waist. There's a 3-by-3 mm square blotch of black paint (a nigh-on perfect square shape, and the same color as his belt straps etc), which happens to be aligned parallel (and adjoined to) his belt; it's adjunct/protruding into an area of his main clothing where it should not be, because no other Guavian Figure has this, and it's clearly a factory paint mishap of some sort. Also, he has a couple of faint but seeable small black paint blotches on his chest area, which no other Guavian Enforcer has from this series, but the funny thing is that on the higher Black Series versions of him, roundish black blotches are all over his chest area, which shows that they are actually meant to be there, thus to me it sort of says that these small blotches align nicely with the reality of the detailing on the higher Black Series figures.

3: And also from the 3.75" TFA figure series, the Captain Phasma I have, here chest armour plate (covering her breast area, and extending a little further down below that), on most figures of her the horizontal part along the bottom of this chest armour plate is much better aligned, more directly parallel with her waist so to speak, but on mine it seems to be quite lopsided, on a definite slant, but the funny thing is that this could only have come from the original mold at the factory, it's not a movable part on this figure, which leads me to believe that possibly there will be two recognized main variants of Captain Phasma down the road in the future.

This is the vintage valuation thread, I expect the conversation regarding values will be about to change as its generally seen that modern toys have little to no value, even with a paint app error or two.
There is a modern thread you may wish to ask an Admin to move this to...
