My girlfriend accidentally deleted the DVD drives (what's the actual name for the software that plays your DVDs??). Is there someway they can be reinstalled? How would this be done? Somewhere on line?
When i google "Samsung NP270E5E dvd drive install download" it just brings up 100s of pages selling this particular laptop. :?

The model is: Samsung NP270E5E

Any help would be much appreciated.

Do you mean the driver software or the software dvd player?

Can't you just recover from the trash, or do a restore to before the delete?

If you can't there are sites where you should be able to get the drivers, and there are a bunch of free dvd players out there.

cheers Jason

Assuming its the drivers, here's a site you could use:-

http://www.solvusoft.com/en/update/drivers/notebook/samsung/np270e5e/sub-models/

That was the 5th hit for 'samsung NP270E5E driver download' on google.

- What's the difference. She said she was trying to delete something and accidentally deleted her DVD and now her computer won't play DVDs. That's all she said so i don't know if it's just the program that plays the DVDs that's been deleted. Most probably.

-I will ask her if it's in the trash. Should have thought of that.

-What do you mean "do a restore"? I'm a mac man so am totally retarded when it comes to PCs.

-Do you know where i would find these DVD players? I tried searching "Samsung DVD install download software drivers" and all sorts of other variations but nothing comes up. Mainly just sites selling laptops.

Many thanks Jason. I will forward this and get her to download and see if it works. I think including the word "reinstall" or "install" in my searches made it a bit more difficult to find what i needed but this is great.

She tried downloading the drive on that link but she says it didn't work. It doesn't play a DVD it just opens up as files when you insert a disk. She also tried downloading a free DVD player and the same problem. For some reason the computer is just not reading DVDs as DVDs. I guess. :?
Also say there was nothing in the trash. At any point.

it sounds like you dont have any dvd playing software, if the drive opens up the disk then the drive is working fine.

try installing something like VLC media player http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html

and make sure she hasnt removed the default setting for playing media files, when the dvd opens up right click on a file and select "open with" make sure a media player software is selected.

I didn't know you could play DVDs with VLC. I have VLC and tried to open a DVD file with it and it didn't work.

Is there a way to reinstall the actual DVD playing software?

Its easy to reinstall the DVD playing software, if we know what it is. :?:

I think the confusion is being caused by your girlfriends translation of what has gone wrong. You can't really 'delete' software by accident (ie highlight then press delete), it will have been un-installed. Find out what was uninstalled and re-install it.

The drivers can be deleted (but its unlikely this would happen by accident while deleting 'other stuff') and the fact the DVD drive is still reading discs lets us know its not a driver issue.

I would guess Windows Media player can play DVD's (unless this is what has been 'deleted'). I would right click a file on the DVD and select 'open with Windows media player', if this works you can set WMP to open your DVD's for you.

All of this is really hard to diagnose third hand on a laptop that is in a galaxy far far away...

Good luck though Pete

yeah you can play dvd's mate, the only way to install the software would be a factory restore if you have that function or the actual disk, some come with a disk like Nero or PowerDVD but its more common for it just to be in the restore area.

if the website doesnt have the software (which it wont for copyright) you may be best just choosing another one

VLC or maybe a media center thats free like http://www.team-mediaportal.com/

they will all play your dvd's no problem.
