Reproduction Weapons

Loose is incomplete because it isn't moc ? It wouldn't be loose then would it ? The factory doesn't decide what is complete , what do they care ?

Yes, but my point is that most collectors still define a loose figure with a loose original weapon as complete!!!!!

Go get help mate .

I think you are the one who should seek help! Help with controlling your ego and manners! If you are not capable of conducting a civil discussion without resorting to condescention then why bother!?
Are you related to Hoth-my-fav from rebel scum?

I thought you didn't wish to communicate Chris!!!? Gotta get the last snarky comment in, don't you!?

Well, you know what, i'm in a rather good mood today and want to keep it that way. So'll let your ego stay intact, let you have the final snarky remark and cease this futile and childish dialogue with you now! Have a good day, sir!

The factory didn't decide what a complete figure is ? The tooth fairy came along and decided what Kenner released ?

My point went completely over your head . My opinion means nothing nor does someone else's . The factory decided many years ago what a complete figure is , all contents within the blister of the moc . That is not open to interpretation or opinions , it's what ever the hell was sealed in the blister all them years ago . No ones opinion or interpretation will ever change what was sealed in them cards all them years ago .

No...! I think your own point has completely gone over your own head, sir!

Firstly, the factory NEVER decided what a 'complete' figure was or is. Why the hell would they care!

But lets take your contention that the factory has decided many years ago what is a complete figure as a 'fact' for arguments sake.

I take it you have a complete collection of loose 'Vintage' figures with original weapons? This is certainly true for many collectors who are so vehemently against repro (and again they have every right to be!).

So then what you are saying is that even your collection of loose figures (all with original loose weapons) is not complete. Because they are no longer 'sealed in that blister with the card' that was defined by the 'factory' as 'complete'. Having them displayed without the blister and card makes them incomplete. Under your 'interpretation' it must therefore stand that the only truly 'complete' figures are those that are mint on card.
The factory cared because it affected their bottom line , hence they replaced the vinyl cape on the Jawa with a cloth so their customers felt they was getting better value . They sure did decide what a complete figure was. You missed the boat you can't change that .

With the exception of a few over priced accessories all vintage weapons are still completely affordable. Just take a look at Chris excellent sales thread over on the for sale section

If someone is thinking about starting to collect vintage Star Wars figures but can't afford the extra pounds or put the time in to hunt out an original accessory, then I would say this hobby isn't for them.

I'm thinking about starting a second loose run, but have no intention of sourcing the guns as I would rather have no gun than a repro. But again my choice, The biggest concern is people are already selling on eBay not stating if real or repro - Definitely trying to be vague, and the next time it get sold the seller may have thought he had an original

Instead of the vintage car analogy would Trigger's broom be better? That was 20 years old (but with 17 new heads and 14 new handles)

I've always considered the Sugababes the pop world equivalent of Trigger Broom, no original members left...

. . . . I did actually buy some of the new floating repros . . . .

Could I ask what these figures are, please? I am interested as they may be some affordable alternatives for my son to collect?
Buy beaters, buy modern, don't buy repro for your collection. If you can't afford or justify some of the weapons then buy loose no weapon and pair with modern weapons imo or as Grant said just take your time and see what bargains you can find

Buying complete loosies with weapons iv'e found is the best money saver, compared to sourcing the weapons separately and individually which can cost a small fortune to complete a collection.

Iv'e had a few occasions where a seller has individually listed several figures complete that iv'e bought, and taking the cost off of what the figure is valued at I ended up paying like £3 or £4 for a weapon instead of £15+

Patience is a large part of it though but it can be done.

It's exactly the same as saying, I can't afford every boxed item or foreign carded figure but I want them all so I'm just going to buy repro for my whole collection and lie to myself. You might as well just have a photo of said item as essentially that's all it is. No historical context, no value, not impressive at all.

However in this modern age of immediate gratification, everyone is entitled to a full and complete collection, right, regardless of consequences?

A better car analogy is those horrible kit cars from the 80's where you have what appears to be a Lamborghini Countach
but underneath the cracked fibre glass it's just a tatty 1.4 escort. In all honesty you end up just looking like a bit of a prick.

So you're not a fan of my Enzo then?

Purchasing a bag of repro weapons has the same satisfaction as going to the store and spending $3 bucks on a thousand tooth picks . Zero satisfaction, anyone can do it . Actually keeping an eye out and gradually acquiring vintage Star Wars is extremely enjoyable. If I was to liquidate my vintage items I would make a huge profit . If I was to liquidate recards I would lose money. I'm keeping my vintage regardless but if I die my family can sell it and they will be looked after .

I think others have hit the nail on the head - it's the instant gratification mentality versus the thrill of collecting a set of something over a period of time. I invest time in both educating myself about the hobby, which enables me to invest time in different ways of sourcing as many bargains as possible.

One of my most pleasing vintage SW purchases was a lot of around a dozen weapons/accessories about 3 years ago, which I got from ebay US for around £10. It wasn't BiN and I was watching it for about a week... luckily no-one else was. There was nothing mega rare in there, but all 100% original. I was able to pair a few of them up with weaponless figures I had and replace some repro I'd (unwittingly) bought with figures around 15 years previous. The others I sold on.

I've made other much more expensive purchases that I've ending up selling on or forgotten about, but I'll never forget that one.

All this arguing over what's complete and what's not complete is just bollocks, have a word with yourselves. It just comes down to whether you want everything in your set to be Vintage/original. Looks like most of us do right? Me included. Repro is **** and should not be encouraged in our hobby for the reasons already mentioned. I don't envy people starting now, I'm lucky to have acquired most of my loose set many years ago when the accessories were peanuts, a few quid each. As said by Scott and others you can find the genuine accessories with a little patience. Yes it's easier to buy them with them but it can actually be quite good fun to find them. I've done this a bit lately, I put a Luke Poncho together for under £60 and paired him with a black smuggler blaster. My Lando General's got a black pilot blaster. I don't give a ****, the important thing to me is they are Vintage and I've done it because I won't pay £100 for a blaster. I love the accessories, they are part of the story of the figure and they have to be Vintage! :)

This argument will be around for ever. There has been many polls on reproduction weapons on this forum and the many do not support it me included you cannot sell repro here i believe you cannot sell repro on any of the recognised facebook pages i am not a member so unsure. Also you cannot grade repro items so alarm bells should be ringing here its despised by many collectors who love original star wars toys and dont want it watered down with this crap.

Who exactly is it that is advocating selling repro here or on the FB forums? I'm certainly not. But I don't think we can shoot down anyone who simply has an opinion on the matter of repro!

I missed this sorry i was just explaining how reproduction is not accepted on a large scale. I was not shooting anyone down just pointing out that if you cannot sell it in the facebook groups or the forum's and cannot get it graded there must be a reason for why this is.

maybe you could give me a valid reason.

Hate to say I purchased a set of these last week to see what they are like in person. Cost me £5 plus post for a set of 16 and on first glance they are quite good. There are some obvious tells on them, especially the imperial blaster, but unfortunately many people will get taken by these and the hobby will be awash with them soon if not already.

I'd hate to try to pick them out of a pile of genuine weapons in a hurry if my life depended on it.
