Everyone was asked to come up with a list of specific things they want and Edd promised he would do whatever he could to get something from said list. It was a competition on a vintage toy forum for the chance of winning... guess what?... a vintage toy. The fact that you actually got to make a wish-list at all is more than you might get in other competitions of this kind. I gave quite a broad, basic and varied list of "wants" and would have been extremely happy to get anything on that list. Hell, i'd have been happy to get anything at all. For a ****ing fiver i'm really not fussed. If it was a comp to win some cash i wouldn't have taken part. Don't see the point. What the **** would that have to do with anything? I play poker from time to time, gamble on sports and even buy the odd lottery ticket but i'm not here for that kind of thing. I'm here for my love of vintage Star Wars toys (and the films etc). I someone wanted to run and Off Topic raffle or betting game just for the hell of it, i guess i might give it a spin but a competition run by the forum, for the forum being anything other than a vintage star wars related competition with a vintage Star Wars related prize (chosen by participant or not it's really not important) would just be absurd and a little questionable.

I will add this, certain people, possibly other than Josh, did not want to partake in the competition because of the rules of which stated the prize will and must be a vintage Star Wars toy/item bought for and picked out by the person running the competition so changing that would in my opinion not be fair or right. Giving the winner money to put towards something he wishes to buy himself is exactly what was said wouldn't happen and the exact reason Josh (and possibly others) said they wouldn't take part.

Hey guys I have already said that I will be using the money to buy a stand alone item of which I have no problem with whatsoever.

There have been some points however that I would like to address: I can understand why after reading back through the original introduction post people might think I am trying to bend the rules here but that absolutley isnt the intention. I can understand why people might also want to see their £5 go towards one item quite quickly to act as closure on the competition round, that seems reasonable.

However, there is a part of me who believes that surely it is better for the winner to get something they truly want rather than buying an item to appease entrants only to flip it some way down the line?

As for talk about shower trays and alike well I apologise but Im not on the same page. The item I proposed buying/ funding is a Vintage Star Wars piece and it fits into my focus and that I would own and cherish for a considerable amount of time. Unfortunately right now with my focus and the limited space I have to display I simply cant stray off course too much.

Why did I enter in that case you ask? Well, I thought this was a competition about bringing people together. I would never even consider spending the money on anything non star wars related.

Instead of bringing people together, already it seems that this has caused some fraction. Mainly from my suggestion of what to do with the prize money for which I truly apologise.

I do however honestly believe that WHOEVER wins this prize WILL have the full support of Edd when it come to him hand selecting the item. Edd has run this forum fairly and has started this competition off by giving up his time to try and cheer people up after what has been a fairly miserable few months on forums I think we would all agree. He has always been spot on with all my dealings/conversations with him and Im sorry Josh but drip feeding any negative opinions about his character seems a bit off to me in the context of this competition and these boards.

*Once again, the money will be used to buy me a stand alone Vintage item and not towards a payment plan. Out of respect for all those who took part and contibuted I will give the decision a great deal of thought so that I can choose a piece that I dont have to flip as I think that would be a shame.

Thanks again to everyone who took part. I wont let you down with what I suggest to Edd to get me and I hope that this has no impact on further rounds of the competition.

Chris.

Chris you are missing the point. You are not meant to go now, after the draw..."This is what I want the money spent on....(insert ebay auction link)."

This is what you listed as your wants :

a nice popy figure. (Sorry tundra)
Toy Galaxy Shelf Talker

That is what he should be looking for. If he can't find that he said he would come up with something else basically. But rest assured it will worth more than 5 quid

*Why don't you just PM Edd, if you haven't already, send him a link to whatever it is you want, or do whatever behind closed doors, and let's see if the next comp can be a little less backwards  I mean why Edd would want to be the shopping boy, is beyond me. Does he not have something better to do with his time? :?

I just want to put this to you all.

3 options.

1. You want a mystery prize
2. You have something specifically in mind
3. You just want cash.

Why is it so hard to just have all 3?
It isn't. In fact, it would be easier for Edd, if anything. Sometimes he would just have to simply hit send on the PayPal. Sometimes he wouldn't have to search for items from want lists because someone would have a specific item like Chris does, and lastly...*the time it will take the most I might add....is running around looking for something from a want list, not finding it, and then having to come up with something else...as a mystery prize.

If you can't see that is how it would break down, and how just giving people the option would save a whole lot of ****, time, and probably even get MORE people involved, therefore, increasing the pot each time.

Edd is aware of my small wants list Josh and he is already on the case for sorting something from my mini list. I know someone who might have one of the items so I will be putting Edd in touch with him if that is ok?? Is it not best that people get something they actually want with the prize money? Edd is playing a role in getting the item for me. Can I just remind people that the idea to put the money towards the 3 pack payment plan was MY IDEA and not Edds. I am more than happy if this cannot be done but with regards to the prize I do get can there be no say in what it is?

To put it another way, which is better?

Buying an item that I dont genuinely want just so that I flip it to fund something I do want?

Or

Liaising with the competition organiser to get an item I will enjoy and keep so that everyone feels like there money went to a good cause?

I totally get that. You don't have to convince me.
But that is not how it was said it was going to be done in the end. Most people agreed/thought the mystery prize aspect was the way to go...****en stoopid idea IMO, but whatever...So shouldn't that be how it goes this time round to be fair?
Now don't blame me here for this arrangement...it's these other guys who wanted a lucky dip for their 5 quid

But I could see it going down this path as soon as the pot got as big as it did. :|

Seeing as the item is on my list is that permissable in your opinion Josh? What about everyone else?

If not, then I am more than happy to have a "lucky dip" item.

I apologise if I have taken this competition and the rules out of context here. Im happy to go with the common concensus on this.

So if I was about to buy a 165 pound MOC could I just ask Edd to buy it for me & I send the cash to Chris? It's the same as Chris getting a MOC ( a surprise that he doesn't want & then just has to sell it) Just give the man the cash to go towards a vintage Star wars item he really wants. It saves wasting money on 2 lots of postage.

Wow, leave the forum for a few hours and World War 3 starts!

Chris was just asking, there's no need for all the over reactions. I already have a few things on my radar that I might get him, rest assured the rules will not be changing (however if you read the rules, making a wish list is 100% fine.)

I didn't want to offer a cash prize because this isn't a casino. All that would have encouraged is lots of randoms nobody knows entering. The fact it was a toy meant only serious members entered, and that seemed to work. As I said originally, those of you who want to gamble for cash, go elsewhere. There are plenty of options.

I'm afraid to say a round 2 is much less likely now, it's a shame that a nice gesture always gets spoiled by a certain few.

Finally Josh - I've had it with you trying to make me look bad. Trying to imply I'm going to steal some of the money, put more effort into prizes for certain members, or a few months back implying I was pulling an insurance scam when some of my collection turned up. You are just a nasty piece of work, and if you think you can talk about the owner of the main forum you hang out on like thet, always with zero evidence may I add, you're mad. Kindly f**k off and troll somebody else's forum. Consider yourself not welcome any more. You've had plenty of chances to show you have good character, but you've really blown it now.

Guys, guys guys. Everybody take a step back and calm the f*&k down. This was meant to be a fun comp, bringing the SWFUK community together. At the moment it seems to have done the opposite.

Everyone is obviously entitled to their opinion, but at the end of the day surely its got to be between Edd and the winner what the winner gets.

Dont let this ruin the chance of this comp carrying on.

I stayed out of this one. It was a very nice thing of Edd to put this together. I was hoping for a freebie contest/raffle type thing again. As a top winner in Ed's one, I would have contributed a piece and I am sure a few of the other guys would have put something in the pool. That was one of the funnest suspense filled things to occur on here and even if I had not won, I would still be behind another one like that. Let's not go down the path of RS.

Thirded! For what it's worth, I think this was really good of Edd and although I can see why Chris should/shouldn't put the money to a 3 pack, is it really worth arguing about?
Maybe if another comp happens next month, there could be a theme announced before people put there money in. Maybe one month an ESB prize, then a Popy, then Potf erc etc.

Bloody hell - how have we managed to turn this into an arguement

It pisses me off it has come down to this - I thought it was a great idea and the fact that it was so well supported suggests that others thought the same

For me, the rules were simple - we all put our fivers in and then listed waht we would like Edd to find us with the winnings - if we got lucky. I don't see why this should be so difficult ?

I hope that we can just close this thread down and look forward to the next competition - if Edd wants to do it

I'm with you too.

This was a great comp. I had the whole "Today, is my day" feeling, but when I saw it was not me, and Chris had won, I was really pleased for him. This forum is so great, I love the way people look out for each other.
The competitions recently have been so much fun.
Lets put this one down to experience and have another one next month.
Thanks once again, maybe next time my jedi mind tricks will work through my laptop!
