What are the best songs of this century?

I read an article the other day and it said when you listen to a song or look at a piece of art you should ask yourself two questions.

1) Do I like the Song/Picture?
2) Does the Song/Picture tell you something about the time it was produced in?

Anyway I think the last 15 years have been fine were just all getting to old for a lot of mainstream stuff. :?

Possibly. Do any of our parents still listen to modern pop music? I don't think mine do. But I remember my parents at around my age now buying and liking chart music. I'm not sure what the point is there but I think it means that because I don't buy any, or enjoy much modern pop that it must be crap ...i think :?

Just looked at the top 100 albums in the UK, as at today, quite surprised really.

George Ezra, Ed S, and Sam Smith top 3

Got to admit, big fan of Ed and of Sam Smith, IMO, great songs and songwriters .

Looking through, we have,

abba, Foo Fighters, Michael Jackson, Luther Van D, Queen, Fleetwood Mac, ACDC, Pink Floyd

So I guess what I'm saying is good music lasts, and popular music, is just that, popular, but fades.

We all love music from our formative years, which has a link ..a zeitgeist if you like, that we mentally link with a time in our lives.

Then there is music that transcends this and just blows you away, for me that can be Tu PAC, De La Soul, Run DMC, or Michael Jackson, Luther Vandross, or Wagner and Mendelssohn ....

Then we have guilty secrets...... The Proclaimers for example!

Appreciation of Art and music is a general thing, but we all have personal tastes that come into the equation.
