BBC 1's Fake Britain / Palitoy market

Post by bbc_prod »

Hi all,

BBC 1's Fake Britain will be examining the current state of the market in vintage Star Wars collectibles. We aim to start filming next week and the item will be around eight minutes in duration.

We are looking for collectors who would like the provenance and value of their Palitoy figures established.

What will taking part involve? Your figure/s will be assessed by a leading specialist auctioneer and you'll be provided with up-to-date values. Fake Britain will film the exchange between yourself and the auctioneer. We will cover your travel costs and you'll play a key role in bringing recent developments in the market to light.

We understand the SW collecting community has been rocked by recent allegations and community members wishing to discuss their experiences should contact the production team for a background chat.

We are also hoping to interview one or two of the collectors who have played critical roles in establishing what has happened within the market. More news on that soon hopefully.

Anyone interested in finding out more should contact the show's Producer at research@screenchanneltv.co.uk

Many thanks!

Sounds great, looking forward to seeing the results.

Step forward Jason, unless you are already lined up as the expert

I hope the Beeb and their expert are well informed on the subject or some schooling will have to be done 8)

Anyone fancy giving them Toy Tonis email address?

Thought that might be the case, I just dropped them an email but seeing as you are on the case Jason my email is probably redundant

Its gonna be nice that some real pubilicty might be shone onto Toni's legacy 8)

Seconded!

Bit worried about some random "specialist auctioneer" valuing it. I've heard too many stories about them falling for the old 'it's SW it's worth a fortune' BS. or simply not knowing WTF they were talking about a valuing a LL/Glasslite/Harbert/Uzay MOC at the same price as a Kenner MOC. Fingers crossed they get someone who knows WTF they are talking about............Gary Smith, have they been in touch?

Jason, any chance you can get them to feature Deber May in the next episode?

Mention ToyToni for certain. They'll probably cut it out for legal reasons but worth a shot.

Agreed if you can get toy Toni into the action that would be brilliant!

I'd say he could also feature on Crime Watch and Rogue Traders. Oh plus a new documentary i'm working on, simply titled "What a c##t"

Don't worry, he is on the menu. Whether he gets served or not is a different matter...
